I heard the makers of Coke-A-Cola also didn’t patent it, to keep the formula secret.

If it moves and it’s not supposed to, apply duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it’s supposed to, apply WD-40.

Actually, corporations, even technology companies, do this regularly: refrain from patenting “the secret sauce” because a patent is a public document revealing all. Enforcing a patent has become almost impossible, and so what was designed to protect has become the agent of infringement — law of unintended consequences. Meanwhile, corporations patent what they think their rivals might be using, just so they can play lawsuit at each other. The benefit of the public and the benefit of the inventor (an employee who has signed away his/her patent rights as part of the employment contract) is the absolutely LAST thing considered by anyone. Meanwhile, the patent office has to keep up with ever-more arcane technology, to make a determination of what is new and unique, and they often get it wrong, leading to (wait for it) MORE law suits! Now I ask you, who benefits from all this? (Hint: the answer is not “nobody.”)

Believe it or not, Vampire finches, on average, drink the blood of 92 other birds.

Believe it or not, the liver of James Bond is equal to the size of the average ottoman.

WD-40’s best use is to remove adhesive from plastic surfaces without damaging the surface. Like after removing a price sticker and a lot of glue stays on the item instead of the label.

I know that if I have a door that sticks and squeaks, and I put WD-40 on it, it is quiet and opens easily, and that’s good enough for me!
