Smear peanut butter on the pole and electrify it. Works as a deer repellant.

Squirrels can’t get at any of my three bird feeders. Had some problems with the one on the patio until I wrapped some aluminum flashing around the pole.

I have one bird feeder that the squirrels could not get to from the ground. They figured out that if they climbed a nearby tree they could jump from the tree to the feeder and land on top. They also learned that they had to hang on to the top and reach down because if they tried to stand where they could get to the food it would tip over and throw them off. Squirrel proof is not impossible but very close to it.
