Yes, turn on the windshield washer and watch that mess smear all over the field of vision! Once many years ago while riding a motorcycle a large bee hit my helmet visor. It was like a slow motion movie as he just spread across the visor forcing me to stop and clean that mess.
Right in the middle is not so bad, the worst is when they hit at the fringes where they can´t be wiped away, or where they can´t be soaked and just got spread around by the wipers.
A Plugger truck probably dates BWW, before windshield washers. My first car was an old VW bug with no washers or gas gauge. Driving that car in the winter was a challenge.

We were driving on the interstate in Illinois in August. The bugs coming out of the corn fields all had collars and licenses or ear tags.
