Considering that the mission was to cause a brief distraction in the news stream I think we can safely say the mission WAS accomplished to some degree.
The action did nothing to change things. Assad is still in power and still able to kill tens of thousands of those who object to him. We lack a good strategy in the Middle East and it is unlikely the present administration is not capable of even formulating a strategy to run the White House.
Definition of Trumps mission accomplished: while everyone was focused on Syria bombing, Trump signed a presidential Directive to ensure that anyone who gets Medicaid, welfare stamps, any type of welfare support must be working at a job even if there are no jobs for that person to do.
So while everyone was distracted, Trump was working on demolishing social programs to help care for the needy. So as far as Trump is concerned, Yes, mission accomplished!!!!!!!!
God forbid that anyone should get welfare unless they’re rich and well off like the elite 1%!!! I mean the rich really need more money, more help to make more money, otherwise they can’t continue to afford their very elite lifestyle!!!
I suspect that the purpose of the bombing was not to eliminate or even reduce Assad’s ability to manufacture gas. The purpose was to demonstrate the ability to precisely target a new generation of Western armament. The message Assad should be getting is that the West does not need a boots on the ground strike to take out Assad as it did Bin Laden and there is little Russia or Iran can do to prevent it. Whether he heeds that message and ceases to gas those Syrians opposed to him is unknowable.
Trump repeated the lie that his first mission last year destroyed 20% of Assad’s air force. This mission, “Mission Accomplished”, was to distract from the Mueller investigation and Comey’s book tour….. mission accomplished. The limited amount of damage is not only the result of great targeting by our military, but also part of the agreement Trump made with his BFF, Putin. Getting the UK involved with this mission was a stroke of genius on Putin’s part, it fits so well with the narrative he’s putting out in Russia, that the UK is framing him about the use of poisons in London and Syria.
I don’t fear that Trump will get us into WWIII so much. Putin and Trump care so much about themselves and see how much they have to lose. Hope I’m right. But what I fear is that too many in America will somehow remain distracted and start thinking of Trump as “Presidential”. That would be a disaster I think more likely to happen.

We can all take solace in the fact that there never will be a world war IV . World War III really will be the war to end all wars – and the world.
