Off to prison even though Thick is still in disguise? That judge must be the fastest kangaroo outside of Australia! Meanwhile some of last week’s events get rewritten, so that Thick knew all along he couldn’t keep the money.

Oh, such suspense over the new assignment. Gosh gee whillikers, why won’t he need money? Is he getting canned?

Slimedroppers: Don’t flash your cash or it will have you busted for indecent exposure. And don’t drape both ends of your muffler over your back unless you’re Isadora Duncan.

Of the six hands featured in today’s strip, two look remarkably human.

Rightwingmoron, it looks like you, NVash and billdi are right about Locher not retiring. There should have been an announcement by now. Wishful thinking, I guess.

I can’t see why TMS keeps him on the job. What sort of contract did he negotiate that lets him get away with the trash he’s generated? Are his editorial cartoons such an asset to TMS that they’ll do anything to keep him?

I don’t know if I’m more fascinated by the insanely deformed arm and in panel three, or Dirk’s apparent ability to shave and change clothes mid-sentence.

Oh, and just for the heck of it can I say now? I will bet EVERYONE five dollars that the next case will be some really sloppily-written thing that involves months of expository dialog, followed by a brief and nominally inexplicable bit of action, after which characters will explain the situation then go to jail.

jumbobrain, do you think there’s a chance that this time Locher will include some action?

With that huge hand and robelike garment, Thick looks like the Colossus of New York:

And in that first panel–does anyone else think Thick looks ready to burst into tears?

Whoa! It took just one panel for Tracey’s jacket to disintegrate! He looks like he just got turned down at an audition for the role of Moses at the local Little Theater. And the hand… it looks like something out of Lovecraft.

Araldite - But if they touch your junk, don’t have them arrested by Dick Tracy. It will not go well for you. Especially if Dick frisks you with that big, big hand.

First Dick seems to think he’s $1,000 richer and can keep the money. Now he says he knows he can’t keep it BEFORE Sam told him it’s evidence and fake. They DO need new writers!

(Or is this Locher telling his readers that we are losers for following this strip?)

Don’t flash your cash unless it’s $100,000,000 in counterfeit thousand dollar bills you withdrew from your bank. Then you should bandy it about town in a bullock cart.

The shaving and the switch from a dirty robe into a suit and tie both. Unfortunately, the shapechanging goes just as quickly in the opposite direction, judging from the transition from yesterday’s strip.

You’d have to think that the HUGE hand in panel 3 - is really Jimmy Brozman getting a little ’practise’ time -since Locher ‘hogs’ all the pencil work (his admission) and Brozman is only allowed to do the ‘inking’.

Bad start ! Look at the length of (or rather, the ‘stumpiness’ of) the arm behind the hand. It’s ‘obzoky! This guy has a ‘Joe Btfsplk’ cloud following him and Dick Locher’s tutoring hasn’t helped.

If we are to believe Locher’s assertion (on the pencil work) Brozman must be the only ‘inker/assistant’ in comics history that gets equal name credit on the strip and I’m not sure that the finished product has enhanced his ‘reputation’ in any way !(?)

jumbobrain, I just love that last paragraph. In only 5 lines you’ve managed to brilliantly describe the broad, copy book nature of every Dick Locher story.

The only thing you might have added was the inane ‘repetition!

    ” D’Buckworth gave me a $1,000 bill I know I can’t keep “

Well Dick, be carefull ! Mind Tess gets her hands on it

I suspect she’s planning another HOLIDAY you know nothing about. And remember what happened the last time

Think of the possible reprecussions (in California?) Possiby, arrested ’ again, this time for passing illegal currency.

And it wouldn’t be for the first time remember. they - (Detective Wiltshire ?), had her in hancuffs back in 2000 in the Max Gorge case?

Make sure Sam holds on to it he hardly does anything in the strip anyway !

BillThompson, I have no idea why they keep Locher around. My main guess is that they dont look at the strip at all and only see his adoring fans. Why those fans are fans at all I dont know.

Oh well, guess we get to see another train wreck that hell try to pass off as a storyline. Wonder how and what itll be this time.

Seems to me a 1K bill would be pretty useless, even if it’s real. Cashing it is nightmarish, your bank would make you jump through hoops because these things aren’t normally in circulation. It can’t be handled elsewhere because your local 7/11 is not likely to have that kind of change laying about loose when you buy something there. Before anybody has a conniption about my mentioning 7/11, remember that 3D was handing these bills out to kids. I doubt that kids are going to buy big-ticket items with thousand-dollar bills.

Whoops, got into doing DT’s job again. Gotta learn to leave the detecting to the detective. Either that, or apply for DT’s job. Hey, I can run and cower in the bushes while the bad guys run circles around me, just watch.

    Fantastic Dick Tracy strip today!

And a wonderful cool crisp autumn day to be cleaning out the fall leaves from the gutters, for the fifth time. Lots of leaves again this year. Reports of an early cold snap, and I choose to put up the Christmas lights early this year. A great day to smell the neighbors burning the fall leaves while others put up their X-mas lights, too. And a wonderful selection of Brand New Go-Comics strips..from Dick Tracy to Mutts to Lio to your favorites..

Thank You Go Comics for a wonderful day!

And may I be the first to wish everyone a Happy and Safe holiday season. Merry Christmas to Dick Locher, Jim Brozman, Go Comics and the Tribune staff and families!

And a Blessed Thanksgiving to all who read this!

    The same to you SimonPenn.

I just realized that the Chief has four fingers on both hands in panel three. Why does her left hand look like a claw? And panel four, not only does Dick have a giant fist but he also has a stumpy arm. Maybe his next assignment is to see a doctor about his limbs.

NVash, in medieval art demons are always shown with distorted bodies. Locher is showing us that this strip is in fact the spawn of Hell. The locomotive for Locher’s next train wreck will probably use brimstone instead of coal.

The folks who received the thousand dollar bills can’t be arrested for passing them, so long as they don’t know they’re fake. When someone turns in a counterfeit bill they are not reimbursed for its value. That’s no real loss for someone who received a bill as a gift, but it’s a loss for any business that took one as payment. I don’t know what legal recourse they would have; I think they could expect the return of any merchandise.

The thousand dollar bill is still legal tender. Anyone who didn’t take it to a collector or a bank would probably spend it on a big-ticket item. You’d expect a clerk to remember who gave them one.

If we were discussing a competent ;police force here, the cops would notify the local news media about the counterfeits.

Her right hand looks like a garden rake. Her left hand looks like a hoe. Her hair looks like a pruning hook.

Maybe this is the start of Thick’s next assignment. “Find the sinister force that’s mutating me into the garden-tool equivalent of a Swiss Army knife! It probably has a connection to the way the police building keeps changing!”

Got it! Diet Smith has invented a time machine! Thick is going to Stalin’s Russia, where the law is a farce, the cops arrest you on whatever charge they feel like and the trial’s over before it begins … uh, will Thick notice the change?

SimonPenn, what do you see in this strip that makes it so excellent? Please elaborate.
