Yes, it did. http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/8995947/nfl-looks-combine-sexual-orientation-questions In years past they asked at least one player about just how close he was to his mother. There is no limit to the level of stupid which can be produced at the NFL combine.
Hear me out, now. Say fake news as the players in the 40 yard dash are in a track outfit, not full gear. Same for the standing jump. Same for the quasi-broadjump. If you really want truer times, have them run (in full gear) on different surfaces.
The bench press is legit as that’s how the rest of the people do the press.
How in the world that scout who asked that question of sexual preference still has a job is beyond comprehension. The organization that he works for should have fired him on the spot.
It is difficult to measure “the right stuff”. The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, always scored low on this type of test. The air force, however, knows what to test. Ted Williams set new records in every fighter pilot training test.
If the NFL had the Combine on Soldier Field in Chicago, there would be so many injuries from the terrible field conditions, the Combine would be cancelled.
Here’s semi-serious question: How often will an offensive lineman sprint 40 yards on one play during his entire career? If I’m a coach, I’m a lot more concerned that my O-Liners can block pass rushers or clear space for an RB than how fast they can run downfield.
You have to remember that many of the general managers, coaches, and scouts (but probably none of the owners!) were former players, and probably had a few concussions……..

I often find myself asking this upon reading Tank McNamara. Did that really happen?

I have never watched any of the combine, and I never will. For the scouts, it might be valuable, but, for me, it’s a waste of time.

The results are truly “fake news.”

Former GM says some questions are asked that will fluster the prospect, to see how they react. Some are pretty touchy….

Dallas Cowboys, Raiders, and Jets scouts ask the players for the phone numbers of their probation officers.
