Chev, I don’t really remember him promising to destroy the credibility of the U.S. AROUND THE ENTIRE WORLD…while making money hand over fist at the expense of the U.S. Taxpayers…
Republicans have refused to pay for an upgrade to the American electrical system to block EMP. If it goes down, it will take 2 years to repair the electrical system.
But rich people need tax breaks so republicans stole the money.
Incredible focus on Trump’s part: Putin threatens the West, shows a cartoon of a rocket planting an atomic bomb on Florida, and Trump critiques Alec Baldwin’s performances.
@Oldcoal: Twice in my career, I involved with space-based laser designs. The first was in the late 1970s, and the second was around 1999-2001. The latter was official killed because the DoD figured they needed to spend on bombs and bullets after 9/11. (There were a couple of other SBL projects in between, but I was doing other stuff then.)
The problem with space based lasers is that you need a lot of them. And I do mean a lot. That’s because the distance over which they are effective is limited. And the window of effectiveness is determined by the missile being in its “boost phase” when the missile body is under maximum stress. This time is measured in a few minutes.
It’s hard to damage a warhead with a laser because they are designed to survive re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere. So your best bet is to prevent the missile from successfully putting a warhead on its trajectory. But the short range means that you must have a SBL (space based laser) over launch areas for enough time to catch a launch.
You can only do that by having multiple SBLs in the same orbit. But anyone who has looked at the locations of successive orbits of a satellite knows that you don’t see the orbit over the same latitude and longitude from orbit to orbit. So just completing an orbit moves the SBL away from the target location.
To compensate for that, you have to have put more SBLs in similar orbits that will result in the SBL being over the target. Altogether, this means a large number of very expensive SBLs in orbit at the same time.
GPS uses 24 satellites, but GPS is essentially very long range compared to an SBL.Multiply that number several-fold. I can’t tell you how many because that reveals laser range information.
And because the SBLs are in a relatively low orbit, an ASAT can nail them. And cause debris problems which can affect other SBLs.
Putin’s comments were interesting to me, as I was involved with missile defense over a long period. I was amused by his maneuvering warheads. Russian warheads have typically been large, and required large boosters because they could not be accurately delivered. But if they have fixed the accuracy issues, they can make warheads smaller. That means they could add on a stage behind the warhead which has radar, IR, etc, and the fuel to maneuver (but only a very limited amount).
The sensors could tell the warhead if it was targeted. It could then either maneuver or separate to show a decoy to the interceptor.
The US, which has always had smaller warheads on smaller boosters, would have trouble replicating this.
So we have Russian attacks on our society, threats to our national defense, and still Trump hasn’t enforced the sanctions against Russia ordered by a bipartisan Congress.
And the so-called patriots of the right never, ever call him out on it.
All the rats are leaving the ship – They know the administration is about to hit the iceberg. Mueller has only shown the tip of the iceberg, and what is under the water will sink Trump’s ship of state.

Putin announced new doomsday nuclear weapons.
Trump’s response was the tweet attacking Baldwin.
===
Trump’s Disciples believe it was a totally appropriate response. They are every bit as patriotic as the object of their worship.

I’m glad he is concentrating on important problems like Baldwin instead of that minor Putin nuke thing.

Is this a sign of rationality from this cartoonist? Glad to see those rose-colored glasses are gone. Welcome to the real world!

NAME THAT ’TOON:
Which song associated with an insecure, two-bit dictator is appropriate for this picture?
A) “I Hate You, Alec Baldwin”
B) “I’m So Lonely”
C) Both of the above
