Reminds me of the sixties, when “audiovisual aids” (ie filmstrips, documentaries and recorded TV shows) arrived in the classroom. We saw a lot of films in those days. Now I realise the teachers knew we would sit spellbound in the dark for half an hour or whatever it was, and give them a break.

And then they’ll end up in a supermarket, and mistake the soup cans for works of art, like they did in a certain Peanuts special.

If that was true, that custodian was a genius!

I remember that on the longer field trips – the ones where the parents were invited, like the one to the Boston Aquarium – the school always changed to use city buses, because there was NO WAY that our parents would tolerate five minutes in the foul-smelling school buses with windows that didn’t open, no ventilation, iron-hard seats, and the suspension systems that were last replaced about thirty years prior.

Don’t put that paper bag down, Sally, or you may lose your lunch… :)

Girl, what’s wrong with you? A field trip gets you out of school for a good part of the day! I LIVED for field trips! OK, so you have a little issue with morning sickness. Have your mom get you something to offset it.

Apologies if this has been brought up before, but shouldn’t Sally’s hair be colored all blonde/yellow? I know the pink in the front is supposed to be a bow or something, but I can’t recall seeing her hair with that look anywhere other than in these classic daily strips with color added.

In Japanese schools, the students clean up the building. So by Sally’s logic, give the field trip students a break from cleaning.

I always liked Field Trips, anything that got me out of class was good. Except for those trips to the Principle’s Office.
