Ted, this is just great. Become even more intransigent. Don’t work with anyone who you disagree with. Vote only for unelectable candidates. Then, when compromise becomes possible, be sure to poke a stick in the face of your opposition because you want to remain pure and unsullied.
Saying “No wars of choice” is an easy slogan. I’m not comfortable with a President who is adamant that we only use our military when there is a direct & overt threat to our security. If we pull back all of our military around the world, less scrupulous actors will step into the power vacuum. Take a look at the Chinese approach to Africa. I’d much rather a President work with International consensus than the “go it alone” approach.
“Don’t talk to the rich”, makes little sense unless you really believe every successful person is a corrupt oligarch wannabe. A President should listen to business leaders & hear their concerns, but shouldn’t be obligated to them. I want a President who listens just as carefully to workers & consumers & makes sure our present interests & our future are looked after.
I’m totally unrealistic. I want politicians who value the planet’s ecosystems more than the next buck, politicians who aren’t blithely supporting catastrophic pollution. I want politicians who aren’t obsessed with privatizing everything. I want the military shrunken down until it can be drowned in a bathtub (to steal a phrase; the military is part of government, after all). I want nukes dismantled. I want the U.S. government to spend no more than it takes in, and I want it to take in more from corporations and rich people.
Sorry, Rall, but if you want to run the country, sooner or later you’re going to have to talk to some rich people. Worse still, you may actually have to listen to some of them.
The idea that Olympic competition is superior to other international competition, in spite of the negative events of past Olympics, is presented in this commentary. Sometimes the positive aspects of a less than perfect occasion outweigh the negative aspects. This may be applicable to more cases than just the Olympics.
Only voting for “electable” candidates isn’t the point. If you always vote for the lesser of two evils why should the parties offer anyone different? We need to let them know it is unacceptable.

A man can dream but if I ever saw a politician like that I’d think I was hallucinating.

Technically, writing in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s name when you vote is still participating in the democratic process.

That’ll do to start with.

You forgot to add that you want to pit the good against the perfect…and the perfect doesn’t exist.

Get rid of them all and start over. This would sort of remind them that they work for us

Mr Rall might take note that after 1 year, the country is in an even deeper hole than it was on before Trump’s inauguration.
It will take years to get back just to Jan 19, 2017.
And it is not unreasonable to assume that the next 2, 3 or 4 years will be far worse.
Clinton was survivable for our Democracy.
Can you say the same about Trump?

Ted, I am mostly in agreement with this cartoon.
However, Elizabeth Warren is absolutely ‘good enough’ for me.
