at least she’s not dyeing her hair (said the deep brunette woman who self-double-processed blonde ‘cause she was bored one weekend - turns out there were a lot of red undertones to make a loverely, yes, a truly loverly shade of orange).

When I was in middle school, my sister and I thought our hair would look good with some “sun-kissed highlights” in it. Needless to say, we didn’t know how peroxide works so we thought more was needed because we didn’t see anything happening right away. That was a “fun” shade of orange.

My sis did the try to go blond, she had this tie dye effect instead. When the pro got done with her about 3 hrs later she had interesting hair…went from blond in the front to brown in the back with about every hair color in between. It was pretty in a marmalade sort of way

Hey all this brings back memories. For my part some 38 years ago I would never have dreamed of being rebellious of changing hair color or peroxiding. I knew one girl thought be unique have a streak in her hair this took off and others followed. Some of the young ladies thought wow looked great. No disaster.

One of my students (about age 8) has a neon pink streak in her hair. I say kudos to Mom for letting her! ;)

I was a blonde growing up but since then have been many shades of red, shades of blonde, auburn, and just about every shade of pink. Have even had dreadlocks and am thinking about putting them back. Being bold with your hair can be liberating. Of course, it can also be the most awful experience ever.

Once in a beauty salon I saw this elderly woman who had one lock of hair red, one pink, one green, one blue… (and the rest her normal grey). I complimented her (I thought it looked great, and also I was impressed by her daring). She was surprised - she expected everyone to come down on her. She said she did it because her granddaughter insisted.

I think she felt relieved to have somebody admire it.

Well, what’s wrong with it? It’s a fairly harmless thing to do. Compared to taking drugs, or drinking too much alcohol, or even smoking cigarettes.

Me? Some of my hair is black, some white, and some silver. I don’t bother about it much. If it were a dull grey I might.

Even Anne of Green Gables did it! And like other people with red hair, she found that hers had turned green…

As a child, my daughter always wished her hair was my color ( red). When she turned 16 I took her to the beauty supply store and showed her what # color I’ve been using forever. Now we both have red hair.
