Back in the ’40s, it was quite common for 8-year-olds to walk the streets unaccompanied at 4 in the morning.

Nancy and Sluggo have one short summer – per the date on the bottom of the last panel, they are due back in school in a few days. Seems like they just got OUT of school. ;-)

I think the date is Aug 31. Wonder what year? Is this a premonition of the shoppers camping out movies, electronic stores and other first runs? Ernie was a pretty smart guy!

Nancy’s expression in the second panel looks like she was hoping for a romantic interlude at Silver Lake.
