Am I missing something? Tracy knows the certification of authenticity for the paper is fraudulent. How does he know PD had anything to do with the fraud? PD’s lawyer will claim the fake certification came from the Nitrates and Boom – PD is out and maybe charging Tracy with improper arrest. (Certificate is dated to period when Nitrates were out, so it could be their work.)

Too bad about Colonel Mallory. God Bless His wife and children.

Looks like Tracy is playing “Columbo” today: “One more thing, sir….” That said, he has performed admirably as a detective, though I do feel a bit cheated, since he accomplished this collar by using timelines we as readers could not have established (including the death six months ago of the putative author of the phonautogram report)….

On with the hunt for Silver & Sprocket Nitrate!
