So THAT is what is slowing down the economy. It didn’t have anything to do with the fact that the average and below average wage earners can hardly afford to buy those corporations’ products. While you’re at it, give those poor rich people another tax break.
Well said everyone. I used to call the right wing base under-educated but now I just think they are too lazy to look up the real facts since it is so much easier to allow the corporations and their political puppets to do their thinking for them.
Ramirez is shilling for more GOP tax cuts. The last time Republicans took over things was in 2001. We had just had four consecutive balanced budgets under Clinton. Republicans passed massive tax cuts that year, we flipped immediately back into deficit mode in 2001 and have run deficits every year since. Beware Republicans bearing tax cuts. At least if you care about the country.
Giving large tax breaks to the rich, and spending whats left of the tax money on the military is the Republican way. Debt does not matter to Republicans unless a Dem is president.
Anybody who believes this is a fool. The official tax rate is high but no corporation actually pays it because of all the loopholes and deductions. The “effective tax rate”, what corporations actually pay, in the USA is closer to the the average of what most corporations pay in the western world. This argument in totally disingenuous and even people who make this argument know it.
Not only is it lower than most but after various tax exemptions, and off shoring US corporations by very little of their share. That’s why they paid so much for the congress, presidency and court system. It’s their return on investment. Ironically, if they just paid the money they spend on lobbying, tax lawyers, and their CPAs who are paid to find loop holes they would actually pay more.
While working on my masters degree, one of my classes had us deconstruct a fortune 500 company. The company I had paid an effective tax rate of only 9%.
Corporate tax cuts will not bring back more jobs.. if anything, it will only encourage more automation. How.. society deals with unemployment.. caused by automation.. is the problem.
You get less and less taxes from the middle class because their jobs have been outsourced to automation.. locally or overseas, makes little difference. And the rich think they pay too much… But not to worry… you can fix the increasing debt as soon as the Democrats get back in power……
What they want is a dictatorship and slavery back. Though they will separate the “races” (sic) this time into ethno-states and just enslave what they consider their lower classes. See there are myriad ways of treating their fellow people as lessers. So many ways they know how to. They have all the past to choose from to use today. Should they win they wouldn’t have long before we reach 2° CD/3.6 ° F and then the scat will be hitting the fan all on its own. The future for humanity in particular won’t be bright. Except for the Sun and heat, and the clouds from newly activated volcanoes and floods. Things will be very busy indeed. Survival will be harsh and maybe impossible except for Antarctica. (Also use floating cities at the North Pole) to drag it out longer. if we don’t stop it from happening, from 1880 – 2017 global temperatures have risen 1° C/1.8 ° F since humans started measuring the global yearly temperature. Expect the next degree to come faster. Humans do things much faster than Nature which is why we have so little time.
It is still in our hands, but not for much longer. Yet the naysayers who fear the idea that humans can change the Earth even though we do so all of the time. How we emptied the oceans of its life. The cost is going to be great and the reforming of how we all live is imperative. For once it reaches the point of self sustaining we are truly screwed not only as a species abut as a habitable planet. You would not like the end of the Permian.
The GDP was higher when corporate taxes were higher. The middle class expanded. Since Reagan, income inequality has increased. Companies used to invest in long-term goals for the company, including on-going training programs for their employees so they could deduct this investment as a business expense. Raising the minimum wage would do much more for the economy because when the lower paid workers get more money, they SPEND it. When corporations get more money, they buy back stock or invest off-shore.
They want to lower the max from 35% to 15% which means the actual rate paid will go from between 0 and 8% down to 0 to 4%? The greatest growth in American industry and jobs was post war when the max rate was 93%, so much for 35 wiping all corporate progress moot.
In the 1960’s the corporate tax rate was 4% of GDP, the highest income tax rate was 90% (that means 90% of income subject to tax at 28% while today it’s 35%) and the economy was flying for everyone. Reagan lowered the corporate tax rate and the highest tax bracket rates in order to “starve the government” and the economy sank into recession. Now corporate taxes are 2% of GDP, the government is on austerity rations (except the military/police/prison sector) and the median annual wage hasn’t budged since 1972. Meanwhile health care spending has risen from 5% of GDP in 1960 to 17% today. Who sees where the economic problem is? Not this cartoonist for sure.
IDAHOSER, the purpose of corporations is to make a profit. Looking at the banks causing the financial meltdown and still fighting regulation, Equifax getting hacked and still charging people to freeze their account, Exxon knowing about climate change in the 1970s and the covering it up, I cannot understand why you think they are “people” that deserve the rights of people and shouldn’t be regulated.
.The purpose of government IS to provide for people – infrastructure, education and regulations to protect people from the greed of corporations. There are too many in government tha are in it for themselves, but that is why people need to learn about the candidates and VOTE (votesmart.org to see bio and voting history)

Ramirez and other Trump Disciples have no understanding of the difference between corporate tax RATES and corporate TAXES.
They believe they are one and the same. They are not.
Many corporations make billions in profits and pay zero actual TAXES, no matter what the RATE says.
You could look it up — except looking stuff up is kind of science-y and we know how Trump Disciples feel about stuff like that.
Because almost tired of ‘winning’.

When you factor in deductions and expenditures the US corporate tax rate averages 18.4%.

Do you know why all tax cuts end up being for “the rich”? It’s because “the poor” DON’T PAY TAXES TO START WITH!

YES, THEY DO!

The reason corporations complain about high taxes is that they’ve spent so much of their profits in lining their pockets with republican politicians.

This con hasn’t worked since it was first implemented by Reagan, and shills like Ramirez still try to sell the public on it. Unbelievable.

Ramirez is right. That’s the problem with American today; the poor have too much money and the rich don’t have enough.

How about we balance the budget and start paying off the national dept before giving out tax cuts.

Ramirez should see how many of the GOP elites support cutting the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%, but eliminating every loophole & deduction.
