What do you mean dyankee? You don’t come to Gocomics for the advertisements?

And I definitely want one of those!

My dog was a self-propelled, fully automatic vacuum (as long as it was food crumbs). And she did dishes, too!

Sadly, she went to doggie heaven several years ago. I still miss her.

You know, I can understand, to a point, all the Spam when I read the comics at midnight, but it’s in the middle of a workday and I just flagged six on this one strip alone that have been here for an hour or more.

People have been complaining for months now and it’s only getting worse.

GoComics clearly doesn’t give a rip.

I’m off to Comics.com, the Houston Chronicle, Cagle, arcamax.com, and any other site I can find that doesn’t let Spammers use it like this. Hopefully I can find Lio somewhere else.

MrGromit, I can promise you and the rest of the GoComics community that we are working hard on the spam problem. We hate it as much as you do. We have always sought to make our registration and commenting system as open and user-friendly as possible. Unfortunately there are people out there who are taking advantage of the site’s design to post spam under countless free accounts.

We believe we’ve come up with a fix that will completely eliminate the spam, rather than provide a temporary hurdle. The fix is coming with the next site update, which is right around the corner.

Until then, please keep flagging and we will clean up the comments sections as quickly as possible.

    GeneralMod

Until then, is there any chance you would consider giving some mod privileges to some of the older and more trusted people here, especially those who are here during non-business hours? I’m not asking to be a mod, but there are plenty of paying members who have IMO earned the trust.

And how hard would it be to block domains? Yes, I know how to fake proxies and others can figure it out as well, but at least it would be a roadblock.

Thanks for your response, btw. I really didn’t think you guys were reading this. I’ll hang out a little longer, but I’d really like to see a response to my above statements/questions.

Thanks for the suggestions, MrGromit. We’ve seen a lot of ideas from tech-savvy GoComics users since the spam attacks began. Mod privileges and blocking domains have both been considered as temporary fixes, along with many others. We believe what we came up with will be a cleaner, and permanent, fix that works on multiple levels - some obvious, some behind the scenes.

If for any reason we suffer a delay in the implementation, user mod privileges are at the top of the list of stop-gap measures we will deploy until the spam solution is in place.

I know it’s a difficult thing to be patient when the situation is as irksome as this one is, but we really do appreciate everyone’s patience.
