I wonder if they made the National Register of Historic Things?

Definitely a “Stephen” thing to do, especially if your last name is Colbert.

Stephen. I think you could make better use of those signs! On the other hand, maybe you have a plan that will require them in the future?

“Steven” ten years from now, and “Stephen” today. What are the odds?

Uh, Stephen, is there anyone else who shares one or both of these opinions?

The movie poster that asks “Why not mummify a basset, then bring it back to life with a curse?”

I saw the human version Monday night. Saturday night I’ll be watching all the Karloff Frankenstein movies.

Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen… and even people who watch horror movies…

Presented tonight for your viewing pleasure….

    or for your terrified screams…

Stelbel’s lovely (in its way) poster for

The MUMMY HOUND… starring Curloff, the Uncanny!

It’s in the Oct 29th  2020 “CLEO and COMPANY” on Sherpa.

Now… this is an older, classic film…. and I often can watch those…

but for this one, I’ll still take my seat in the Scaredy Cat Row…or of we’re gonna watch on video… behind the couch.

    Curloff was pretty darn spooky.

As usual, there’s a beautiful heroine, to play against the monster….

I think it must make audiences feel an even deeper sense of peril, when great beauty is threatened.

Women identify with the danger… men want to spring into action as conquering heroes.

    That’s the theory, anyhow.

Around here we don’t care who joins us for kibblecorn in that back-facing row.

The humans did a version too, you know.

    They copied Stel’s poster….

But they couldn’t quite copy the menace or the beauty.

    Look:

Thank you, StelBel for another beauty(andthebeast)ful poster.

Get well soon – no purplie eye-shadow…

I do exactly know Claude’s version of the curse: “Confound it, Cleo!”

Just came back with a couple of notes I didn’t have time for earlier…

For one thing… Saturday being Halloween, this week’s puzzle will arrive on Friday.

Just wanted you all to get your pencils sharpened on time!

Then, about “The Mummy”…. it was made in the middle of two movie fads..,

Better special effects, and the arrival of sound, had led to a new explosion of horror, and other sorts of transformed reality, on film.

And the opening of Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1921 had led to a decade of Egyptian influence on clothing, jewelry and Art Deco decor.

The public was familiar with the names and stories of Egyptian gods and rulers…

the way they know the Kardashians and TV stars today.

But no novel existed, as there was for Dracula, or Frankenstein.

The story was commissioned especially for this film.

BTW, Dennis… I don’t see Cleo Clifford in the credits…. maybe she took a very small role…

or could you be thinking of the part played by Akita Johound?

    G’night, all….

Good morning, Ballardeers and D&D! Q Date: 230.98426.95 inhale and exhale. Yep. Still here.

Loved Curloff as a kid and he still scares the carp out of me today, but I have to admit that Abbot and Costello meet (insert monster name here) are totally my favorite.

Stephen needs a couple of historic monuments.

Y’all have a great day! (((((Hugs)))))

Hey, everybody! Thank you all SO MUCH for all your well wishes this past week!! My time limit for being at the computer before I break out into holy hell moans of pain is about 10-15 minutes, so I’ll be brief. I had a device implanted deep into my back that is supposed to interrupt pain signals to my brain. I went through a trial procedure last February which was promising. But, nobody told me how incredibly painful the actual surgery would be!! I need a device to block the surgical pain from the implantation device!! LOL

At any rate, as horrible as it sounds, the pain is subsiding slowly and I’m better than I was a week ago. Soon, I’ll be able to work on what electrical programs will work best to address my particular back pain. I can control everything with a remote! Better living through science!

So, hopefully, in the coming months, I may even be able to work on some new posters. I’m getting so tired of all these reruns!

I can’t tell you enough how much your messages mean to me! We may be a small commenting group, but we’ve got the best people on GoComics right here! I hope to be stopping by much more regularly now. Although I don’t have any new stuff to post yet, I DO know that Nighthawks is working on a very cool story line to run soon, so STAY TUNED!

and…………thank you all again! You are THE BEST!! ♥♥♥

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! AND, DON’T FORGET TO VOTE !!!

(PS: I think this poster of “The Mummy Hound” predates exclusive use of Cleo Clifford Purplie cosmetics. If there’s ever a re-make, you will see it in all its glorious purplie. Apparently, Cleo herself can outvote Nighthawks… she exerts such power here at the C&C Studios. )

And as for Stephen on Ballard St., I think the Hugh Heffner smoking jacket and pipe give a good indication of just what kind of history was made there.
