I sense a right-wing political movement — Americans for Tax Reform — which has relentlessly opposed all efforts to just let the federal government do all the paperwork for us, using information they already have on hand (which they already use to double-check what we send in anyway), specifically because Grover Norquist wants income taxes to be painful so people will hate them.
