Take into account the “religious right”, who are NEITHER actually, and all those torches taken to our freedoms have been clear for a long time.
AS a “liberal” I HAVE had problems with “PC language” for some time, but the “correctness” comes from both political sides, with detours for demands of “independents” and Libertarians. It’s all about the “me right, you wrong” generations since WW II selfish instead of selfless regard for the rights of others’ views.
The GOP has painted itself into a corner. On the one hand, they don’t want to stop being moral scolds. On the other hand, they want to be fun-loving, hedonistic, non-PC hipsters who “get it” (for several values of “it”). They can’t decide which one they really are, and it’s far from easy to be both and be vulnerable to criticism from both sides. They pretty much fail at both, but still think they are wild and crazy pillars of rectitude who have the right to lecture everyone else.
And, with Trump’s choice for the Dept. of Education, we’ll have the freedom to pay for other people’s children (e.g., Trump’s) to attend private schools.
