Thick, she talked about the withdrawal on Sunday 22 August. She only mentioned it after you told her that the Herald had run a front-page article on how Triple-Dippy had withdrawn millions. Then she said that he withdrew one hundred million dollars. Didn’t you write this down in your detective’s notebook?

Incidentally, she also told you that her husband never discussed business with her, so how did she know about it?

Flight Suit, I am tempted to joke about Testicle Chin being a natural-born teabagger.

Oh, and Thick? While we’re discussing clues–you know, those annoying things that only matter to detectives–you should wonder how the paper learned about the donation so quickly. Homeless Guy should wonder, too, ‘cause he’s just not doing a good job of laying low. Or is “Low” the last name of one of the boys he paid off?

Since the newspaper is in the know about this, maybe they have printed fake $1000.00 bills andf have one of their older employees dressed like a homeless and passing these bills out to see if the PD actually is checking all the leads or letting the newspaper fool the public into thinking something is happening to the milliondollars.

That’s one of two possibilities, HectorPriam, but Locher hasn’t told us enough to settle the question. Some of his clues are ambiguous. The putative widow told Thick about his economic and political beliefs, and how he had nothing but enemies. That makes me think that Homeless Guy is not D’Bucketkicker–but what if the widow was lying?

Last panel: Mrs. D’B on the phone.

No, that’s not Thick asking the same question again. It’s Dick Locher, trying to remember what is going on with this scattershot plot. He has to phone his characters to jar his memory.

If Sam Catchem is going to join the Tea Party, good for him! We all should! Remember, all the government would have had to do in order the give the people on social security a cost of living raise was to have cut some foreign aid. But even liberal Obama would not dream of doing that !

Rightwingmoron, maybe that was Homeless Guy’s sinister plan all along. Give the Senator a large and illegal amount of money, knowing that it would be publicized and thereby embarrass the politician … hm, wait, that assumes Locher is capable of planning. Evidence for that is as unreliable as any other evidence in this story.

Actually the whole newspaper story reeks of incompetence. “Cash bonus?” Is there evidence that the senator was bribed to vote for the bill? What were the contents of the bill, anyway? All this vagueness suggests that Thick is now moonlighting as a reporter.

    In Honor Of WONDER WARTHOG

A clue from Sam, a thought from Dick– Is that too much to ask? But all we get’s the same old schtick So we take the strip to task.

Forgotten clues and logic thin, and no visit to the crime scene by Dick or Liz or Testicle Chin will only make me wax obscene.

Missing bucks and changing ells and that widow, oh so shifty! Only show that with his brain cells Locher’s been too thrifty.

And if you ask the local M.E. about the dead man Dick’s forgotten you will soon remember that DT also means delirium tremens.

Whether we hale from left or right, Or are the bleeped Netnanny We’d gladly stay up half the night To kick the artist’s fanny.

And this brainless pile of recap can only leave us in dismay. But after Locher’s mocking slap Wonder Warthog saves our day!

Here we are* NINE weeks* into a Dick Tracy story totaly FLUMMOXED and no one can figure out WHAT HAS HAPPENED ! (?) Can you ? Can even author Dick Locher ?

A man is missing, and the only thing we can put a firm finger on in all that time is UNCERTAINTY, lots of it, flavored by a CONFUSED lead detective who keeps on getting hot ‘CLUES’ (that lets ‘face it’ - has, in 6 cases), and for two years now, failed to lead to ANYTHING of ‘SUBSTANCE’ ! - e.g.: http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2010/08/20/ http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2009/08/17/

Help Ringo - tell us what happened !

Perhaps we need Ringmaster Boss Ringo back in, to Tell Us - WHAT HAPPENNED (?) - Locher’s engaged in repetition and not doing it. http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2009/08/07/

So logical (and easy). to have done a DNA test on the body to establish the I.D. on 3-D, with certainty.

Tracy even talks of the DNA process back in last years Circus story when he had a whole bunch of clues that amounted to nothing : http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2009/08/15/

And let me remind, that was the tale where Tracy had a SWAT team providing security for staffers at the Circus … and when Mr. Pops pulled his gun, they all vanished as if they had never been there. http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2009/08/27/

Sydney Phillips, they could also have checked dental records, or X-rayed the skeleton and compared the pics to any hospital records D-cubed had. Healed fractures and any implanted medical devices could be definitive. Or at least let the ME rule this was not Triple-Dork.

And I looked at that circus arc. Barb Els, the lady body builder, looks a lot like Mrs. D’apostrophe. I guess the steroids took their toll.

More importantly, the circus story reveals Doofus’ master strategy: get all the suspects together, then get one of them to crack under the strain of boredom.

@Sydney Phillips - a DNA test is not %100 certain. It is only a “hash” of the full DNA, so many people will have the same hash (but the hash is such that collisions are randomly distributed and highly unlikely in a given investigation). Furthermore, everyone is a chimera to some degree - we retain some cells from our mother. Normally the number is vanishingly small - 100s of thousands out of trillions total. But in care cases entire organs are anothers DNA. Sometimes, a siamese twin is absorbed into the sibling, so that the person born has a 50/50 split of two distinct DNA.

For example, a mother had her children taken away for 4 years when she applied for welfare, because DNA testing showed the children weren’t hers - despite the sworn testimony of her husband and obstetrician. Fortunately for her, another doctor heard of her case and became interested, and proved that her ovaries were from her siamese twin sister that been adsorbed. So, in a sense, her children were her sisters, not hers. Of course, your young children barely recognize you after being away for so long, and probably were upset to be yanked away from their foster parents.

An athlete lost his medal when he was falsely accused of blood doping based on DNA evidence. His blood was from his adsorbed siamese twin brother.

Sam gets uglier, Liz gets hotter, this strip gets….. Hey, why not reprint all the old strips and pension off the gentlemen doing this starting with when Dick Tracy was just called “Plainclothesman Tracy!’ I’m sure those old strips would go well because hardly anyone recalls that B.O. Plenty was once a crook trying to strangle this lady whose name I forget with a cord in a public library’s reading room! In those days the Dick Tracy strip really moved!

Stuart G. and Bill T, In an earlier post in additon to DNA testing, I’ve mentioned dental records, scars, birthmarks, moles that are all certainly more reliable than a deteriorating blue butterfly tattoo. The point is Tracy and the medical examiner have as reported used ONLY the tattoo. And that’s been ’accepted’ as ‘good cash’ by the family, hence the Tombstone last Sunday with D’Buckworth’s name on it. Seems a tattoo would be less reliable and more easily faked

For Tracy to accept the tattoo and then talk of ‘murder’ without knowing the cause of death is JUNK detective work.

‘Disingenuous’ Dicky also conveniently forgot that the Wrist Geenee Tracy wears has a rapid DNA capability, which given the ‘uncertainties’ he failed to use.(and for the record - a Taser which is also never used in a conflict or in many an emergency since July 2005. http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2005/07/13/

I must say I’ve missed this weeks colorful verbal ‘paroxysm’ regarding the may virtues of the Sunday page.

Where is Simon this week ? Out looking for Garfunkle (?)

In the past, I rather enjoyed the attempts of the ‘Woodstock’ Boys defending the many flaws of Dicky Locher, he of the Anti - Midas touch, swirling his Gilot 290 pen. Attempting to convert ‘blunder’, by applause to desk thumping ‘thunder’. But the heat in the Kitchen was too much - the lads have ‘retired’ now.

Then there was the alter ego, who last I heard sits quietly on the river bank in Naperville paralyzed, fixated with enjoyment - watching the work of a ”genius” in a Dick Tracy stature. I wish him well.

Simon Phillips, you’re exactly right. Locher is showing us what should be a mystery story. The readers have a right to expect him to play by the rules. One of the biggest rules is to give us reliable information.

If one of the rules of the DT world is that the Wrist Gizmo can supply a reliable DNA analysis, that’s fine. DT is a work of fiction and people expect the “real” Dick Tracy to use inventions that don’t exist in our world (at least not yet). Thick hasn’t even discovered the pen and notepad.

CougarAllen, Thick hasn’t even seen Homeless Guy yet. Thick only knows that the newspapers have reported one of the homeless is passing out money. From Thick’s point of view, there is no logical reason for him to connect the thousand dollar bills with D-cubed’s disappearance.

Or maybe Thick has been reading this strip in Nappingville’s innumerable papers. That would be both surreal and a fitting punishment for him.
