Ted Rall for September 09, 2016
Transcript:
Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte, who campaigned on a promise to murder 100,000 criminals, has already killed hundreds of street drug dealers. (Rodrigo Duterte,: Just because you're a journalist you aren't exempted from assassination, if you're a son of a bitch.) He's scheduled to meet Obama. Obama is preachy. (Barack Obama: We will always assert the need to have due process and basic international norms.) Duterte went full-spectrum Trump on Obama. (Rodrigo Duterte: Who does he think he is? I am no American puppet. Son of a bitch, I will swear at you. Everyone has a terrible record of extra-judicial killing!) So sad: they have so much in common! (Barack Obama: I don't like the look of that guy's top of his head.) (Man: Shall I give him due process?)

Only the wealthy and well connected have due process. The rest of us are guilty even if we’re innocent.BTW, under the law there is no such thing as innocent, there is only not guilty, the negative of a negative.

Ted’s drone obsession continues. At least he’s not comparing Hillary’s emails to the Holocaust today.

And 45 years ago the picture would have been B-52S dropping tonnage in S.E. Asia; and 25 years ago it would have been cruise missiles launching for eastern Iraq, and 70 years ago…
yup, war is hell

You can’t just lynch someone… you have to give them a fair trial and then lynch them.

I think what Bam Bam meant was that you have to give due process to your own citizens. Or, maybe not.

This is like saying the Bush administration started preemptive strikes on Americans with trumped up evidence. There is a difference between a war zone and the streets of an American city. Obama is not droning street level drug dealers, he is blowing up brown people over there. They are trying to get terrorists, and they do hit civilians and that is wrong. I would rather they stop all of it. But equating these scenarios is hyperbole at its finest.

Flash GordonActually there is one narrow concept of innocence. First, you have to be convicted in a kangaroo court on fraudulent evidence. Then serve a major time in prison, preferably on death row. Then have innocence proven to a scientific certainty. Next, get “pardoned” by the marsupial. Finally, after relentless lobbying (usually a cause célèbre), there is a slight chance of getting certified as “actually innocent”..PICTOOf course you can. All you need is a badge and a gun. You may also get a paid vacation as a reward. At worst, you will get a new job in a new jurisdiction.

Duterte did not want to meet Obama because he was afraid he would drone on, yuk, yuk, yuk. I could not resist that one. I hope it made many of you wince. Keep up the great work, Ted!

Yeah! Because due process in war zone makes total sense. Because the bad guys are due processing us right back!
