Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Alix: If I ruled the world there'd be no MEAN KIDS at school. Holly: Is something BOTHERING you?? Holly: 'Cause...if someone IS bothering you...just remind them who your OLDER SISTER is. Alix: Holly The Horrible? Holly: Hey, I can channel my cranky for GOOD. Holly: Remember that bully, LEROY? HE was picking on you...but now he talks in a squeaky voice and hides in the boys' locker room. Leroy: EEP Alix: Wait. YOU did that?! Holly: He caught me on a PARTICULARLY bad day, of which there are many. Alix: Wow. Will I ever have your power?! Holly: Probably. Hormones run WILD in our family.

I love the look on Alix’ face in that last frame. ;-)

I have no kids, but I have inherited “THE LOOK” from my mother’s superpower gene pool. Was able to stop two toddlers from racing around the restaurant AND their mother from making a snarky comment about correcting her children, all without a word. (Got a nice thank you and a free soda from the waitress, too!)

ghostkeeper, where do you live?? In my area, schools are coming down HARD on bullies, not making excuses for them.

Some kid was bulling my younger jr-hi sister, real gross sexual stuff, crank calls. My brother found out. He, two friends, and my future brother-in-law went from the high school to jr-hi and had a talk with the kid. My brother picked the kid up by the front of his shirt and leaned him against the wall with his feet 2-3 inches off the ground and nicely explained in no uncertain terms that the kid’s behavior towards our sister would change. The other 3 boys simply stood behind him with their arms crossed. My brother put the kid down and they left. That kid steered clear of my sister for the rest of their school years.

emjaycee (and thirdguy): Don’t give that look TO the spammers - use it ON them!
The elementary school my kids went through CLAIMS they’re cracking down on bullying. But when it comes to actually doing something about it, the most they can do is talk to the bullies, and in extreme cases suspend them for a few days. Since the bullies don’t want to be in school anyway, that’s not really much encouragement for them to stop.

Bullies are moving from physical intimidation to cyber-bullying. Much harder to enforce and twice as mean since it’s mostly anonymous. I’m so dreading when my kids are in middle and high school.

When my kids where in a small school area they had to deal with othe smart mouth kids only my son turned in another kids for what he said. I had to turn someone else for what my daughter told me, then I had to go to another parents house after another what another boy said to my daughter this let the parents know about their son. Schools are tracking down bullies.
I know SS is bassing some topics like being bulling. Here is something different that affects most women and young teen girls.
I will have to use anothe comment section.

She reminds me of my sister. She beat up the school bully when he was hurting our brother.

I’m so glad people are trying to figure out what to do about bullies! There didn’t even used to be a word to describe them.
I was terrorized by one where I worked. I was grown up but had no idea how to handle it. I vividly remember his exact name and some of the things he said. All the women working there were terrified of him. (I notice that a lot of bullies tend to pick on females only. They seem to hate women.)

Okay, the other day, we had an informative discussion about Val’s, Joan’s, etc. pasts.
Does anyone know how Biscuit got her (I think she’s a her. Hm.) name?

annamargaret1866 Biscuit got her name from the fact that she was a stray that they took in and while trying to figure out a name for her the family noticed the quickest way to get her to pay attention was to say “Biscuit” therefore the name.
About the same way any stray/rescue gets a name whatever they seem to answer to. Biscuit then causes an issue with the family due to the need of finding a vet// Wally’s Date while Joan left him in limbo for a while.
Is there really any clue on what type of dog Biscuit is? Or is she just a mutt?
