While the wealthy and upper middle class may have been preoccupied with manners and social climbing, the vast majority of the unwashed masses were preoccupied with survival, food, and staving off boredom.
Call a footman to prop her feet up, and a dip to bring the maid.
And if the writing was better, it would be more than just a fancy, highbrow soap-opera.
