I remember what I considered “bad news” back when this strip was first published and I look at what we get in that department now. It really has just gotten worse in so many, many ways.
Want good news? Go to YouTube. There are several channels that promise just that….What you’ll find is a narrative that keeps telling you that’s what they have, while showing you stock photos, that will have you wondering, where in the world they are, as the people change ages, race, and gender. If you’re lucky, eventually you will find out the veteran bought the poor kid a burger, or the poor kid bought a veteran a burger, or a scout helped a little old lady across the street……
Being a fan of old movies and TV, I’m appalled to note that, rather than the good guys, the bad, the illiterate and the ignorant of yesterday were apparently the forebears of current recent generations. They think like them, they talk like them and they act like them.
We tend to look back with nostalgia and complain that the world is going down the drain. We forget that, “Nothing’s more responsible for the good old days than a bad memory." (quote by Franklin P. Jones)
However, what do the numbers say? Is the world getting better or worse. Here is a TED Talk on that subject from a few years ago:

Exactly what the “news” channels love and thrive on.
Meanwhile in the real world there are plenty of people doing good things.
