Investigative journalism, for any young people who may not have seen it elsewhere.

Back in the horse-drawn carriage days, my Grandfather rented storage space in his small barn to the man next-door who owned a hearse. This hearse was the only one in town and it was the man’s primary source of income. My Dad remembered seeing the man come out of his house around noon and look up and down the street of their small town. Then he’d look at his pocket-watch, curse out loud, and complain “…12 O’Clock and nobody dead yet!”

True story. The agent for Butch Patrick (of the Munsters) got a call from TMZ, asking for confirmation of his death. The agent freaked out and immediately called him. He told her, “No, I’m not dead yet.” For the New Year he posted a picture of himself with a sign that said something like, “2019, and I’m still here, TMZ.”

Not obit, but when we were younger and I’d had glaucoma a long while I used to get phone calls from the medical insurance we had and the caller would ask, “Are you blind yet?” No, I wasn’t and still am not. Then the caller would remind me that if I was blind then I needed to be moved onto Medicare. The worst was when they hired chipper young people to make the calls. Getting asked such a question “with a smile” feels quite surreal.
