It wasn’t swimming lessons at the Y, was it?_______________________________

No. There were usually family friends who would pitch in and one summer our city had a short program that she signed me up for. What’s funny is that my girls picked up swimming easily during their old summer day camp. I neglected to tell my mother about that. One time, a few years ago, my parents took the girls to the beach. The girls made a bee-line to the water & my mother just about had a heart attack! She thought she’d have to wade them in!

Still loving the art in this era. The backgrounds are just classic suburbia.

As a boy growing up in the city of New York in the 50s, I had several Peanuts collections available to me, and used them to learn to read. Even at that tender age I appreciated the irony; to me, suburbs like that _were _ the country.

PLEASE skip ahead to the fall — it’s okay if we miss a few from 1952 — so we can read about Christmas in December instead of next April! C’mon — there is no good reason to read these old strips during the wrong seasons! SIGH!

Hot town, summer in the city

Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty

Been down, isn’t it a pity

Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead

Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
