    If the engagement ends, and if the marriage ends in divorce, the engagement ring’s ownership reverts back to the person who gave it.Most judges would rule in the divorce decree that the engagement ring be liquidated to pay off the marriage debts unless it was the groom’s family heirloom.Don’t believe me, watch Judge Judy.

    I take issue with your first two sentences only because of your use of the word “pay.” Having a better educated populace is a good investment for society as a whole, both socially and economically. Same as we invest our tax money in roads and other infrastructure, and so many other things we take for granted. While it isn’t possible right now to magically make all colleges free, the more we do to make it easier to pay for and to have fewer grads saddled with overwhelming debt, the better off we all are.
