I played soccer as a kid. Remember having a ball hit me in the gut while I was on the bench. That’s when I decided not to play again.

I remember playing soccer in P.E. class in grade school. I liked it because I understood the object of the game. I could never figure out what was going on with football.

God, the writing on this was so good. The art too, but SELFISHLY I wish Mr. Thompson had hooked up with a brilliant artist and kept on going. The comics page is so desolate.

Non-selfishly I hope he’s got everything under control and is enjoying his retirement.

When the “Petey plays soccer” arc originally ran, I would occasionally include international soccer scores in my comments. I can assure you, I will not be doing this again. You’re welcome.

Giving trophies for just participating is pretty lame – and costly. I’ll bet the winners weren’t even recognized for their achievement.

If he trades his oboe for a guitar he could go by the name Peavey.

As Calvin’s dad might say, losing builds character.

    Pevey really fits him though.

I know how you feel Petey. My name is misspelled many times as well.

Pevey the Participant is an excellent alter ego for Petey. He doesn’t have to achieve anything, he doesn’t have to do anything. Just be there for the game.
