VW edged past Toyota this quarter. Not nearly the dominant monster Henry depicts. More like two kids standing back to back with a carpenter’s level on their heads and someone looking very, very closely.
Payne obviously has a car fetish. Is he one of those Pat Robertson is referencing concerning gay marriage and machine implements. (what, that was Rep. Steve King, R-IA?)
Had a ’71 bus, when engine let go, replaced it with essentially a Porsche engine, it really amazed those Porsche drivers going uphill in the Sierra… Payne would have loved it. Also with some of the first Continental studless snow tires, could pull stuck 4 wheel drive rigs out of snow banks.
Volkswagen was aiming for 800,000 sales in the U.S. Everybody thought it unlikely, but they may do what Toyota did a few years back. They chased the volume goal and their reputation for quality slipped badly. Once gone, it takes a lot of time and money to get it back, and VW never had that reputation to begin with. Good luck.

I know the #1 car maker in the world is not an American car maker, but is it really VW instead of the likes of Toyota? Just wondering is all.

Humble little VW. I can remember when they had 36hp.There was a waiting list to buy one, Detroit failed to get the message. Same as Tesla today.

I think VW owners spend more time picking out the curtains for their van than their own house.

I remember when the Gremlin came out. I was too young to drive, let alone own a car. But I was hoping to eventually get one. I never did.
Another one I liked because it looked so unusual was the Thing. It usually came in orange. It didn’t last long, unfortunately.
