Mom: So, you don’t want to know that I also went to the library? Son was almost 30 and Mom was almost 60. You can never stop embarrassing your children.

He survived because he was a national hero as a WW-I submarine commander. For the Pentagon, he was also a useful distraction from Dietrich Bonhoffer who didn’t survive the war because he was an active member of the anti-Hitler underground. Interestingly, aside from the “quote”, Niemöller is rarely read today, while Bonhoffer is still studied, particularly his predictively titled, “The Cost of Discipleship”. Still, you make good points, if the details are ignored. The essential points are quite valid.
I think it is important for children to see their parents take a stand for something that is important to them; for parents to teach their children that you need to speak out to be heard.
