My Shar-Pei died of natural causes in my arms. She was quite old. She staggered off the sofa and came to me and whined, I held her and petted her, thinking she had pain, but her heart gave out as I was holding her and telling her what a good girl she was. She died in the arms of the one she loved the most. Not a bad way to go, and I thanked her for allowing me to be there with her at the end. I didn’t go to the store for milk and come home and find her gone. It was her last act of love to me to go when I could hold her and pet her and tell her I loved her. I didn’t have to put her down, she left in my arms on her own schedule. Rats, now I’m crying.

PS: When it’s my time to go, I hope she is the one sent to bring me home.

Just when you think Bob’s world extends no further than his fur, he does something like this. I share your loss, Frank.

Izzy has now met up with Ginger from the Big Picture. They have become instant friends. They go outside and rest under a shady tree and watch the birds. Then, the go inside where there is always full bowl of the best cat food they’ve ever tasted. Afterwards, they rest on the window sill and dream of only the good times they had with the people who still love them.

This strip has hurt so much this week. We had to put our 18 year old cat to sleep last October. My son took her to the vets, and when they left my daughter and I collapsed on the couch and cried and cried. My daughter was only 2 when we got our cat, who was a stray, and she said it hurt so bad since she could not remember a time when our cat wasn’t part of her life.

How can the most loving thing you can do for your buddy is also the most painful and sad? My condolences to you and your whole family.

I have had to do this numerous times. It’s heartbreaking but you have to be brave for them. Like the above posters said the last voice they hear is the voice they love whispering “goodbye”, “I love you”, “you are the best kitty ever.” Soft hands stroking them. Some of them were even purring as they left. Another thing that comforts me is that they don’t know they’re going to die. A gentle way to go. We should be so lucky. Peace and love to you and your family Frank.
