I don’t think yelling at Woof will help.

The thread gets you to thinking about traumatized animals.

We had six kittens who were refugees – mama took them out one night (they were living under the house) and they met some coyotes. Six kittens survived, two kittens died, Mama died protecting her babies.

They grew up to be fine cats. One particularly fine specimen of cathood was Chunks. He was a huge cat but very, very spooky. Easily terrified.

Along came the grandchild. He and Chunks would sit, heads together and not talking, for hours. (Grandchild grew up thinking he was cat.) Eventually the little guy declared that Chunks was a “scary cat” and he (Chunks) was afraid of “eyes in the dark.” He was very clear about this.

We’ve always wondered where the grandchild cam up with that from. If anyone could have read a cat’s mind, it would have been this four year old boy.

Sally, Lady, no made up story – true relating of facts.

The grandchild spent his first five years surrounded by our flock of cats. He and the cats worshipped each other and he viewed them as being absolutely equal to his human family in every way. The only two points on which we ever told him that “that wasn’t for people” was the matter of cat food and when we caught him trying to groom his friends using cat methods. Apart from that, he was the complete cat whisperer in every way. Chunks was always his special friend and whether deep in conversation or sitting in companionable silence those two were best of buddies. Hopefully the little guy will grow up retaining his special affection for animals.

I think the problem is that you don’t smell like a flower, Chesney. 2old – I love the cat (Woof) in the hat. Funny. kd1sq – it must have been fun to watch that relationship.

The little guy is now seven. His home life is somewhat problematic now inasmuch as his father and mother (not living together nor married) tend to display the all too common characteristic of finding what they need to be far more important than what their child needs. This means that his father’s inability to bond with anything but his own desires results in the little guy having only one cat, no chickens and no dog – all forbidden (when we all lived together the little one had a furry army of friends courtesy of his doting grands.)The little one still has his great love for animals and on the rare occasions he’s permitted to stay with us (parents don’t like him to stay with us because he wants to leave them and live with us full time.) When he does visit he has ducks, a turkey, seven cats and the world’s smelliest dog to play with. As well as two people that give him quiet, relaxed, non drama home. When he visits and sleeps in his room he usually has a cat carpet covering him.He has expressed a desire to be a vet when he grows up. I know that much.Oddly enough, we have a tomcat who found us, we swear he’s the reincarnation of his earlier much-loved predecessor. When the little guys was visiting and tomcat walks into the room, little guys says “That’s Booby!” (Booby being the earlier tomcat’s name – they knew each other well.)The tomcat knew him, too. Came straight up to him, jumped up next to him, settled down and was his constant companion for the remainder of the little one’s visit.Nah, we’re not crazy old people, we’re quite hardheaded folks. Sometimes you have to wonder.

Maxie update…getting better daily. My cousin asked, if, when wearing the ‘cone’, was he receiving HBO. The pictures today are superb. W + S, the two tiger cats with the sticky roller and ‘doing it’s job’ ignoring humans brought a smile to my face. Thanks.

@amethyst52replying to amethyst52’s comment from 18th of March 2015:Hello amethyst52!I know what you mean – the town you have lived in Bavaria, Germany is very beautiful, and the other towns you mentioned are very picturesque with medieval and historical downtowns. Food and wine are good, especially the Franconia wine filled up in “Bocksbeutel”.I live in the Bavarian region Franconia, in Schorkendorf, a village of about 280 souls, northeast of Wurtzburg – 100 km away ( 63 miles). Next town is Coburg. South of Coburg situated is Bamberg, maybe you have heard of this town, too. I myself know Bad Windsheim and Rothenburg ob der Tauber from certain visits and trips, really lovely picturesque little towns – always worth to visit.
