Wikipedia has an entry about Wikipedia too: so meta. What bugs me about dictionaries is that they are all abridged, yet they usually include very detailed half-page definitions of the most common english words, while dispensing with archaic words that may have fallen out of usage. It’s the archaic ones I need to know when reading old books and manuscripts.

I use those little red and clue lines under the words!! (Laughing! For some kids, that is the truth sadly.)

Dyslexia’s a serious problem and I’m not making light of your daughter’s problem . . . but I saw a funny bumper sticker a while back that said “Dyslexics of America Untie”.

Nice to hear an encouraging story. My daughter is 8 and while my wife and I suspected that she was struggling with some level of dyslexia it came to a head last October when one night she refused to do her homework started crying and said “My brain doesn’t work right”. We got a referral for a children’s neuropsychologist who determined that she has a marked impairment in orthographic memory. But she is bright. Her teacher has told us that when she reads a story to the class, our daughter will have insights far beyond the other kids in her class. We are now in the process of getting the school create an IEP for her.

I have a friend who’s severely dyslexic. He’s also a Science Fiction fan and reads more books every year than most people because he doesn’t let his dyslexia stop him.

Back to the comic strip So Wilberforce is once again smarter than his old man. Yes, the word dictionary is in the dictionary. And, back to the girl who is dyslexic. Former New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller who served for almost four terms before being selected to be Vice President of the United States was dyslexic. I have a gentle joke. Did you hear the one about the dyslexic theologians who were going to discuss, is there a dog? Hang in there. Never give up!
