So, basically, they are going to keep us in suspense for at least another day about the baby.

When Bonnie Brads came home from the west coast many months ago, I was going to post about how Joe Tracy came to be named Joe, but I never did. This seems as good a time as any.

Dick and Tess were out in Washington state to see their daughter. Tess said they hadn’t seen her for two years. Honeymoon was with them and “Uncle” Vitamin Flintheart showed up at the airport to join them. In Washington, they met Bonnie’s “good friend” (perhaps boyfriend), Detective Joe Sampson, who was investigating a convenience store robbery. The owner had been shot.

While Tracy and Honey went on a hike at the Indian reservation where Bonnie was teaching, Vitamin and Tess went for a wilderness ride in the car and came across the robbers (“Bony” and his girlfriend) who kidnapped them and their car. Of course that’s when Tess went into labour.

Vitamin subdued Bony and helped deliver the baby, just as Det. Joe of the tribal police found the car and its occupants.

Capt. Joseph Patterson, in the words of his Wikipedia article, “influenced Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy, changing the title from Plainclothes Tracy, and he supported Gould’s vision of a technical, grotesque and violent style of storytelling.” He also suggested that Walt adopt Skeezix in Gasoline Alley and gave the idea to Milton Caniff that became Terry and the Pirates.

Let’s see, Tracy just was in a flaming, collapsing prop windmill chasing and arresting a fugitive, and has been given news his new grandchild is waiting to see him? A whirlwind of emotions here so yeah, I’d let Sam drive too. Congratulations Tracy, on your new family addition!

    Morning, Tracyville!

Notice how how the color scheme completely changed from the dark and foreboding colors we’ve had the fast several days to the bright and colorful strip today, showing a complete change in mood. Congratulations not only to Team Tracy for a fine story, but to the GoComics colorists as well. Not to mention to the Tracy family.

“TIMELY” relevant post today - Neil . . .Thanks !

From November 1979. Written by Max Collins / Fletcher Art.Haven’t looked at those strips for a few years, and had forgotten that baby Joe had been named after Joe Sampson (Bonnie Braids’ at the time, Washington boyfriend). And a very Gouldian type reference with a ‘tie back’ to Capt. Joseph M. Patterson, Chet’s boss.

If memory serves me right (?) the Son’s full name is Joseph Flintheart Tracy. A touch of acknowledgement to Vitamin *!

Joe Tracy was in the Phishface story, the interlude with Popeye and Olive Oyl, the story of bonnie’s return when she said that she had heard that he liked to be called “COOL DUDE” now, and he replied with “NUH UH BONNIE, NOT ME!”, when honeymoon, tracy and diet went to the moon on christmas, the above depicted storyline with cinnamon knight, black pirahana, belle and broadway bates, so yeh.. joe has been featured a LOT in the strip since the reboot.. and i’m glad, joe always was a cool character and i like the fact that mike pays attention to tracy’s family

Friend of mine got the nickname Otis because he was born in a hospital elevator on his way to the maternity ward.

Someone REALLY needs to explain this

Explain what?If you are talking about the French and the pictures that Pequod and I posted, the answer can be found on any major news channel. To put it bluntly, two terrorists entered Charlie Hebdo, a political satire/humor magazine in Paris France similar to our Mad magazine or Cracked, and killed the editor and a few artists as well as two police officers. They are still at large, and Paris is freaking out big time. The political art community world wide is up in arms, and there are tons of pictures of pen/pencil is mightier than the sword and break a pencil and two will take it’s place style images popping up everywhere. Protestors have filled the streets with Je suis Charlie (I am Charlie) signs to show their support against the attack.

Here are some Google image searches that show some of the work of four of the prominent cartoonists who were killed. WARNING: Safe search is off in these links. There is nudity in most of them. NSFW.

By the way, the name of the publication Charlie Hebdo means “Charlie Weekly.” I think the “I am Charlie” slogan in partially in response to something one of the gunmen shouted, “We killed Charlie Hebdo,” but also to echo a French newspaper editorial after the 9/11 attacks that said, “We are all Americans.”

That’s correct. It’s written in large bold lettering at the top of the second selection of strips I included.

The French don’t have the hangups we do about nudity.

That’s true but I thought I should warn the puritans among us.
