I think Hilburn screwed the analogy up. Bill and his friend should also have “tabs” and no “blanks”. (“blanks” being the jigsaw puzzle terms for “holes the tabs go into”)
Two or three pieces might hook up, but there really isn’t much excitement in that. Sometimes there are 12 or 15, but those kinds are usually cheap and easy. The middle class pieces hold out for a minimum of 500, while the elite insist on being part of a group of 1000 or more.
