Welles’ Macbeth movie is the best overall treatment I’ve ever seen (even counting the time I played the Thane of Ross).

The Elector is rather older, but I’m reminded of two portraits I saw in the Rijksmuseum of a merchant and his son. Dad hath a lean and hungry look, Junior very puffed. I was reminded of stories of Salem, MA merchant families in which Grandpa started a fortune, Dad maintained and built it, and Sonnyboy lost it all in self-indulgence.

He was called “John the Magnanimous”. He might’ve been “big-hearted”, or he might have been just plain “big”! Of course, it would take a big heart to pump blood through a large fellow like John!
