The leash was blocking the sidewalk. Was he supposed to walk into traffic? Why didn’t the owner stand by the tree, with her dog, giving him room to walk?
BTW, I am a dog owner/lover, and laughed my a$$ off at the joke.
The dog still holding up his leg, cute. But the guy would have to stoop to cut the leash. At that rate he could have stepped over it. Yes, I’m spoiling it by being technical.
I never had a leashed animal, but it seems the etiquette should be similar to using a basket in a supermarket aisle; you make every attempt to never block the way of others by standing on the opposite side to your cart.

I would like to see extending dog leads banned. The number of times a dog has wrapped around my ankles and almost tripped me up, is appalling.

Composer Wallingford Riegger, if I remember correctly, died from injuries sustained from tripping over a dog leash.
