Given that he named his imaginary friend “Hobbes”, I don’t think “Melville” is that big of a stretch for his imaginary brother.

I’m sure that it was Calvin’s parents who named his stuffed tiger, not Calvin.

Bill Watterson said that he was thinking of John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes when he named the characters. Why not Herman Melville?

Have any of you seen the knock-off strip called “Hobbes & Bacon”? It’s Calvin as a young father (married to Susie, of course) with a daughter inexplicably named Bacon. I think there were only a few strips, but it was cute. Made me smile to see him with his own kid. Hobbes, of course, played a big role.

The next brothers name is Pequod. We know how he turned out.

“He sees you when you’re sleping, he knows when you’re awake…” remember? (The NSA has been bugging him for his monitoring secrets for years…)

I’m Calvin. This is my brother Melville, this is my other brother Melville! LOL

Seeing as how the brother is invisible, maybe next year the brother will be named Harvey. :)

I can imagine how Calvin would be if he had a baby brother.

Once Santa finds out Calvin is lying….let’s just say, lots of coal!

He will get two lumps of coal this year instead of his usual one.

Bring presents for Melville? I would prefer not to.

I know I’m checking in very late in the day, but I think Melville is Calvin’s version of “ME ville” as in “It’s all about ME!”

Personally, this is way better than that insulting stuff Pastis has been putting in Pearls lately.

There is also a Melville, New York, out on Long Island.
