The last dog I got from a shelter didn’t look cute at all. In fact, she looked quite miserable and pathetic. That’s because she was TERRIFIED of all the other dogs barking around her. As soon as I got her out the door for a “test walk”, she became a different dog! She practically dragged me to the parking lot!! I had no choice but to take her — it would have been impossible to get her back inside the building… And yes, she was a great dog!!!
We adopted one female (we had two neutered males at home) who was so pathetic — filthy, matted and hair all overgrown. We brought her to the groomers, then to the vet. Diagnosis of swollen belly: she was pregnant! Two weeks later: two little boys, one little girl and one VERY BIG GIRL!
And that’s how we ended up with a house full of seven dogs! (Sadly, every one of them has passed on now… and I miss them all.)
Now, we have Max, a little rescue terrier from Tennessee.
Kudos to all who adopt animals who need a good home!!!
My BFF has a 6 pack. 2 Jacks, 1 Cairn, Standard Poodle, a Dobie and an American bulldog cross.Except for the Poodle, they were all within 48 hours of the needle as unadoptable because of mental or physical problems.They’re all great dogs in their own way.

We’re trying to change public perception of some great family dogs that are regularly overlooked in shelters. We have plenty of great dogs in need of homes across the country. Just pulled one out of a Texas shelter today, and am getting one from a Louisiana shelter tomorrow.
Hounds are great dogs, but do have an odor about them. Because of this, they are not always the best inside pets – if you live in an apartment, you might want to look at some different breeds. I love dogs and it really make me sad to see people that do not have a clue, pick an animal and then return them. It is not fair to the animal.
Adopted our little guy 5.5 yrs ago…..a quiet pathetic 5 mo old pup…who, unlike the others yapping wildly…just curled up in his cage. We took him for a walk and he became animated. He became our beloved, loyal family dog…and our cats adore him and sleep with him. ADOPT A SHELTER ANIMAL.
I looked at several dogs the day Scout adopted me. He was the only one who made (and kept) eye contact. One just wanted to hump my leg. He was in the back seat on the way home, came between the seats to put his head on my shoulder. That was it – we were in love.
