Smaller enlargement can be found at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.Franz and Mary Stuck in the studio (I wonder if he, palette in left hand, really dressed like that while painting) is privately owned (click the image there to see the room, and again to bounce back — apart from over-translating some names, the Google translation is almost as good as this human translation of the painting’s description). The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated German Wikipedia page has more) and collection (more under Subcategories).
@pcolli and @orinoco womble: I’m not sure where this issue about a door came from, or why you’re asking me; but, the Google translation (deleted his name one place and over-translated his name as stucco in another), of the Villa Stuck Restoration description, says there is a stairway up to the studio, on the top floor. If it’s the only room up there, perhaps there isn’t a door; but so what?
Concerning the statuette: if you read his Wikipedia page, he was also a sculptor. Athlete was his first sculpture. The painting remains with the family, having never been put up for auction.
