According to the administration, “Universal” background checks won’t work unless there is also universal registration, which is illegal. Rather than abide by law and go after criminals, they’d rather join them.

Write to your legislators and tell them what you think makes good sense in this issue. Universal background checks and transferring gun “titles” the way we do cars is a good way to start. Increasing penalties on straw buyers, people who fail to report when a gun is stolen, and people carrying guns when legally restricted- due to criminal history or violent mental problems – is a great second step. You forward by taking steps, one step at a time, until you arrive at a better place.Respectfully,C.

For a minute, I thought we might actually agree on something — but no.I am a very frequent international traveler (I have a platinum frequent flyer card on one airline AND a gold frequent flyer card on another), and I have been studying this situation from inside and outside for years. The TSA is incompetent, ill-run, inefficient, insulting, and violates numerous American principles. It’s an incompetent police state. They have the ability to jerk you off your plane with no justification and no recourse; they can hold you if you so much as complain; and worst of all, IT DOES NOT KEEP US SAFER.We have been X-raying shoes since the incompetent shoe bomber. But X-ray machines capable of actually seeing plastic explosives were only installed in the last couple of years. For years people have been taking off their shoes for no reason. (TSA screeners in Boston — where you think they ought to be more careful, given the history of 9/11 — scored no better than chance.) Bush, by the way, knew this and didn’t put forward the money to upgrade X-ray machines. Oh, and while we went through this “security theater,” shipping companies were taking TRUCKS full of packages onto planes without so much as a cursory inspection. Look it up. I heard this from a manager at a major overnight shipping firm, who had done it himself. Again, Bush didn’t bother to push forward the “100% package screening” that would make us safer. Putting a bomb on a plane does not require a human being at all.Adam Savage of the Mythbusters accidentally took two ten-inch razor blades through the “naked scanner” and no one even noticed.Worst of all, they are fighting the last war. 9/11 will never happen the same way again: no one will trust that a skyjacker will land them safely. Ever. The only thing that we did that actually made us safer was put armored doors on the pilot’s cabin and block passengers when they had to go to the restroom. In the meantime, this pernicious bureaucracy has absorbed vast amounts of money and Americans’ time better spent on other things.

Ms Ima, if you kept your hateful vitriol to yourself, you might have the opportunity to be taken seriously.

No, they can register backgrounds (people) not guns.

Might be fewer people than guns to register by now!

Actually, and factually, Wayne LaPierre has not killed anyone. I guess it makes you dangerous to defend our constitutional rights in the face of those who would take them away.

Background checks even mandatory gun use and etiquette classes could be ok, but we do have a right to bare arms.

Wow, what an amazingly arrogant clown are you. Yes, no Liberals have jobs, except me and a hundred million others. The utter lack of exceptionalism on the right is clearly displayed in your postings; good work.

Well after being in the industry for 15 years. Universal background checks DO work if they are done right. You DO NOT have to have universal registration for this to function.

Also, why the gun happy retards so afraid to register their guns? You have to register your kids, your car, your marriage, your schooling, ..hell you give out your SSn number left and right for medical, credit cards,.. so whats the problem?

Ah, another idiotic, ill-informed remark. No point in even answering. My criticism was of the ineffective time-wasting efforts used NOW.

When Obama was nominated the first time, I bought quite a few shares of S&W and Ruger. Did the same this time also. Just wanted to thank all you paranoid 2nd amendments folks for increasing my portfolio!

“Joe Biden said stronger background checks would do little to prevent mass murders by guns as criminals find ways around the laws.”

Joe Biden never said that. He said that there is no one size fits all solution to the situation that happened at Sandy Hooks. Want proof? He wants a nationwide background check on gun buyers. Quit making stuff up.

Let’s get some ‘common sense’… conservatives will agree to universal background checks for firearms if liberals will agree to universal background checks for voting. …crickets…
