Years ago I read an article about Spain in “National Geographic.” There was a picture of Christopher Columbus XXII with his infant son, Christopher Columbus XXIII. I can’t remember if he was referred to in the article as the principal heir to the explorer. Probably not, as no doubt there are hundreds of descendents by this time.

This is what inspired little-known Canadian songwriter Flash Heavyhand to write his even lesser-known ditty, “The Wreck of the Santa Maria”!!!

@Alexikakos and @Varnes — Freberg’s “United States of America” is a favorite. The URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXmCIFKRrTY and the Columbus skit starts about 2:20 into the video. Enjoy!

Please forgive, but Alexikakos’s offering reminded me of that old Spike Jones favorite. This version is cleverly illustrated:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXRj9lSnJnI

At least he didn’t run into Pierre of the North….that would have REALLY messed things up….besides there was another man with a group that actually discovered America first….anyone hear of Amerigo Vespucci…."America is a take on his first name Amerigo.

The Chinese would have had a very easy way to get here much before that. They had better ships…. ….Just stay near the shore, follow it around until you get to N.America. The 90 mile gap between Asia and and Alaska is nothing,…And yes, there are stories from China…

Chinese in a big storm, near shore pull into a cove and ride it out…Europeans in a big storm, in the middle of the North Atlantic…which boat would you rather be on?
