It’s so nice to have a vintage serial comic that’s still as good as this one. If only Alley Oop were half as good….

Mole has to know her mother’s name in order to invite her out to dinner, duh…..

I would expect that Mr. Mole knew that Toad’s mother was “Mrs. Spencer,” but being the cautious, reticent, polite, shy guy he is, he didn’t know her first name. Thanks, Toad, for helping bring Mole and Rose closer…. ♡

I dont think thats it at all… mole being sweet on toad’s mom i mean….. i’m gonna lean towards mole actually writing out an invitation to dinner for both rose and toad

Very sweet. It would be nice to see Mole find love..I know it’s meant nicely but I have to admit I have a hard time thinking of toad as an affectionate nickname.

I think that mole is just needing a diner date mixed with conversation and a few laughs, that’s all. I hope he has some nice duds. Check out the nice smile ole Mr. Mole has on. If you have clean clothes on and a pleasant smile usually, folks don’t notice the baggage. It is when a person starts saying stupid stuff that they start to ask, have you ever been to prison? Have you ever killed anybody? Why do you hang out with kids?

If MM is real, it would present a terrible dilemma for Junior, and in some ways, for Honeymoon, too.

“Moon Maid certainly was (and still is) one of the most compelling and well-loved characters in the history of Dick Tracy”

You forgot most glamorous! IMO no Tracy female ever combined fashion sense and vavoom like Moon Maid did. Lizz came close with her miniskirts and hats, and Mrs. Chin Chillar rocked the house in her little outfit and high heel boots. But Mysta was in a class by herself. Between her bunny corset, elbow length gloves, thigh high boots, pearls, purses, hats, and all that glorious platinum blonde hair, Moon Maid was a 60’s sex bomb, a Madonna before her time. And as burning hot as Gould made her, Staton has taken Mysta to new heights of allure. I mean, has purple EVER looked this good? Who else but Mysta would coordinate the color of her mask with her boots and gloves? :)

Seeing how cute little Toad is, its reasonable to think her mom must be too……and no way then could she be a daughter of Mole, I’m afraid. The REAL reason, I fear, Mole is asking them to dinner is because it will remove them temporarily from the safety of their underground lair and give Mike a chance to have something “happen” to them, sparking another adventure, lol. As for whether Moon Maid is real or not…..if the strips are done that far in advance, I’m sure Mike could call an audible and change her TO being real if that was not the original plan…heck, they alter stuff all the time in comics to reflect some sudden real life event…..

Hope I will remember tomorrow, but the linkage of losing newspapers because of the Moon Era is just mythology started by Jay Maeder in his Biography on Dick Tracy, and furter ’ fanned ’ and distorted by a good number of readers that simply did’n’t LIKE the Sci-Fi element in Dick Tracy.Ought to know, I was of that mind back then ;- ).

But the newspaper circulatiom statistcs (Garyn Roberts’ book) shows that the strip hit it’s newspaper PEAK (i.e 675) in Winter of 1969 - SIX full years after Moon Maid first appeared and 7 and a half years after (52 gang story) – when Diet Smith revealed the Space Coupe.

What really knocked the strip’s circulation was Tracy wiping out the Intro Gang with a Laser Canon. Gould was unlucky that it appeared in the papers the same week Bobby Kennedy was assasinated. And siily as it may sound many Editors of the time linked the two events. To the point of blaming the fervor of the strip for what happened in the Kennedy death.

Not unlike today’s scenario where helpless Polititicos try to pin the recent child slaughter onto insuficient Gun Control, rather than those Menally Disturbed people who pulled the triggers

Several published articles after 1969 and up to 1973/4 show circulation at “nearly 700. One report disagreed with the rest and called it 375 in the same year., But there was always the question was that just USA Newspapers ? It’s never been clear and that’s the number Jay Maeder used IGNORING 1969 and all the other positive reports.

One report shows ciculation a 500 papers in 1977 as Gould moved on. Not knocking Collins, he did a great early job but it’s worth noting that when he departed 15 years on there were 2 reports. One had the number at 320 papers the other called it " about 250 "

    That’s long it’s a rough but a realistic over-view **
