Wow! Knute’s comment should touch a sore spot of some males who always maintain that good guys finish last.

Chrystal is already beginning to dress differently…less punk rocker and more ‘simply hip’. Lipstick should be subdued to pink by tomorrow. I expect Knute’s hair will be restyled tomorrow to reflect his inner gentleman . This, of course, will attract other girls and make it tougher for Chrystal to get closer to him. But….good guys should finish first…and Knute will win Chrystal’s heart.

I also love the verbal references to issues faced by LGTB teens….presenting a positive aspect to their everday worries concerning school . ..don’t worry, be yourself, you will be accepted.

Look at the big smile on Crystal’s face in panel 2; one thing though, he’s going to have to study harder if he really wants to win her heart, hot girls rarely go for guys working at McDs

Crystal is great! But I still think she deserves someone better than wise-guy Knute. Even with his inner gentleman showing, he is lacking in gravitas.

Reality doesn’t bear out your interpretation! There were plenty of “good guys” producing Gen Y in responsible fashion. The chivalrous were mis-treated by many a feminist, but gentlemanly practices were always received graciously by those who didn’t see kindness as a threat.

The sterotype of women falling for the “bad boy” is merely that; most of the women I’ve met would want little to do with the ill-behaved, and are attracted to responsible, well-mannered men, finding the “bad boys” to be immature jerks. Women would much rather have a stable father in the lives of their children than to raise children alone.

The gene pool is as diverse as it ever was.

This is it Guys! The movement has been launched. It is time to reclaim your inner KNIGHT!

Knute shall lead the way to the restoration of Civility in Western Culture. Gunther and Ox shall be 1st Lt’s. Gunther has always behaved as a Gentleman, (maybe that’s where Knute got ‘reinforced’ in his tendency) and Ox has the spirit for it. (Remember in Camelot it’s “’Might FOR Right!!”)

I’ll be the curmudgeon here. In the old days, “gentleman” had specific class-related connotations. It also had specific gender-specific connotations that were not always helpful and used to “keep women in their place.” I am not suggesting that politeness isn’t good. It is ALWAYS appropriate (though I never understood the pushing in of the seat in modern society). I hold the door for anyone – because it’s polite. I don’t see why it has to be gender-specific.

Methinks Knute has been secretly watching ‘Downton Abbey’. Which, in Martha Stewart’s words, is ‘a good thing’. :)

I like the way Knute dresses. He and Crystal both have sort of an “artist” look, and dress their own way.

You know I hate to see the racism issue pervade such a wholesome comic as Luann, but the some of the facist commens about the voting electorate are dispiriting, but I guess not unexpected. One point about thiscomic is that it embraces, in a gentle way, much of the diversity the celebrates this country. Anyway enough serious commentary. I like the arc involving the two opposites, Crystal and Knute, but today I am going to permit myself to say how cute and sexy, and less outre Crystal is dressed in these panels. Heck even Knute is dressed kind of nice. I kind of like the possibility of these two characters really becoming a serious couple. I think this strip is getting ready to transition into a major change for the characters, with people going off to college, or jobs, and Brad and Toni getting married (I hope)

I think Knute is very comfortable with himself— as is Crystal— and I think that that is something they see in each other. In my experience, all the guys in high school that were like Knute were also exceedingly smart, and grew up to be successful and happy.

I believe that recent generations are not as “chivalrous” because the manners of chivalry have been de-emphasized— kids didn’t see others doing it in society— sure didn’t see it in movies/TV. But I don’t know if that’s a bad thing; in the days when a man commonly held the chair, opened the door, lit the cigarette, women were de facto second-class citizens. Now, the generations have lost the trappings of gentility because they were that— trappings— and are still trying to figure out how to make the social gestures of affection and respect in ways that are genuine and meaningful.

That said, I submit that this new-found behavior in Knute, and it’s favorable reception by Crystal, are outward signs that they really like each other— that they have crossed over from “trying out” to “being,” if that makes sense.

Now this is getting ridiculous!

I must’ve missed something here, too. Where did Nabuquduriuzhur say anything about Obama? Gkid is the only commenter who even mentioned the election, and it wasn’t very clear which earlier comment that was in reply to.

Based on the last election, nice guys finish last!But, 7 years from now, when she’s out of re-hab and he has a masters in Engineering, she may not think he’s such a jerk, once he loses that hair and cap. And has a six digit income.

I think a more likely spin-off would be Gunther and Knute during the college years, living in a dorm somewhere: the geek and the surfer boy, one trying to study all the time, but, finding it hard with the other one always partying in the room ;)

Thx for yesterday’s welcomes you guys :) I’ve been a fan of this strip since the 80s (although, I had to retro read quite a bit of it as the paper I’d been reading Luann in stopped carrying it); must say that I was shocked when I first saw the “New/hot” Luann a couple years ago! haha (The last time I saw the strip previously, she still had a head shaped like a pear and a ton of freckles)
