Yes, they do grow. The sugar maple tree in front of our home is about 1-1/2 times as tall as it was in the 2001 pix in this photo. and our kids are all grown up and on their own too.
A dear little ficus tree had existed in a decorative clay pot on my mother-in-law’s front stoop for years. We inherited it, and kept it on our front stoop for years. Then my husband wanted to plant it in our back yard. “DON’T!" I said. "They grow way, way too big!” He did, and it did. He wished I’d insisted. My son gave my parents a crabapple tree about the size of Janis’ choice. When they moved, it was Arlo’s size and we planted it in my yard. The drought killed it last year, but we have a few years’ supply of jelly and butter on hand. RIP old friend.

Twice as wide……1 1/2 times deep……use mulch/dirt to fill if you’re planting in the “concrete” that passes for soil in Nevada.
