Bill, You don’t have to be a liberal to think that electing Palin would be stupid and irresponsible. But I suspect that letting Palin win the primary would be a great way to turn a great many Republicans into Democrats.

Putting Palin on the ticket back in 2008–“a heartbeat away from the presidency”–turned a lot of Republicans into democrats, independent voters, or non-voters.

It didn’t matter - Obama ran as a war president anyway and got away with it on election day.

Well said , Florchi. I can not imagine Republicans in 2012 being quite that dense… or at least not the majority (and the thinking!) ones…. Or at least I hope that the vocal minority are a true minority and there will be someone out there better than what we see today. Though I do think that Obama is doing an outstanding job given all he got dumped in his lap. Maybe the rest of the USA can go the way Washington State has? the top two vote getters in the primaries run against eachother; be they both of the same party or not…..

Avolunteer: That’s interesting (Washington state voting info.). My comment was not intended to pass any judgment on the outcome of the 2008 election - just to point out that the numbers (i.e., votes) might have been different if not for the “heartbeat away” Palin factor. Thinking Republicans figured out that if the ticket won, Palin could well become prez - either due to incapacity of McCain during the 4-yr. term, or the fact that she would have the advantage of being a VP incumbent in 2012 (assuming McCain would not run for a second term due to age or incapacity). There was also the appearance that McCain’s judgment and/or clout may have slipped - due to an unqualified candidate going on his ticket. Hopefully the Republicans won’t make the same mistake in 2012. Of course, Boopsie seems to think that they made the “same mistake” in 2000 & 2004….

I think “President Palin” would be an oxymoron.

That was one of Obamas selling point over his lack of execuitive experience. Pundents were telling the American people “he has had 4 years to tink about being president – and he has read and studied on the subject.”

If that logic is good enough for the left – it must be good enough for the right!

^Sorry, being smart counts for something. Obama taught constitutional law, edited the Harvard Law Review and proved over and over to be not only a quick study but one who grasps the intricacies of both international and national governance. Palin showed over and over that she neither understood the issues nor had any depth in her knowledge base. Worse yet, she showed a remarkable nastiness and willingness to belittle others in public service (now, you could say the same of many here, but we are not public servants desiring to be the leader of all the people).

“Thinking Republicans” an oxymoron? That, billdog, is just plain bigotry. And labeling. I’d be curious to hear what you have to say about southerners or the working class; two other demographics whom dems have alienated with their elitism.

Hizzoner- The Dems ARE the working class, The south on the other hand… They don’t put much of a premium on Thinking, Education, and Hypocrisy.

A republican crying about Bigotry, Unreal, Have you noticed ANY of the things the right have said about President Obama? Or “the dems are soft, unpatriotic, and with the terrorists’? any of that rining a bell?

The Point is W was an Incompetent fool who ran to prove something to daddy, and he did. He became The worst President in OUR NATION’S HISTORY. On the backs and Bodies of the working people and the military. As terrible as W was, Bible spice(spice) would be worse.

TPMushroom, Amen! Shrub wanted to avenge his father because Hussein had tried to kill HW and to get that mosaic off the floor of the hotel in Baghdad. Here in the hills that is called a feud. Only thing is, W’s lack of military knowledge cost us many a good young life and turned half the world against us. I know you are tired of hearing this but Truth is TRUTH.

I think the worst possibility is that there seems to be a pretty large and vocal segment of the republican right wing that see anything that angers the liberal left as being good, regardless of merit (or lack thereof). This seems to be the group that Palin appeals to most.

President Palin..Kinda spooky! Had a nightmare about that once! McCain won, he died & Sarah speeds into the Oval Office… Whooh-Hooh!! Nah, this way too bad to remember & relate now. New Year would be Unhappy & wrecked!! ; -)

Barack Obama was appointed the first black President of the Harvard law Review in 1990. The holder of this post is generally regarded as the top student at Harvard. There are a number of Harvard Law Review Alumni on the Supreme Court - Stephen Breyer served as Articles Editor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg served as Editor, John G. Roberts, Jr. served as Managing Editor, Antonin Scalia served as Notes Editor. But none of these, including the current Chief Justice, served as President, so there is an argument to be made that President Obama is smarter (or at least ranked higher as a Harvard Law student) than any of the Supreme Court Justices.

Sarah Palin, between 1982 and 1987, attended Hawaii Pacific University, North Idaho College, University of Idaho, Matanuska-Susitna College, and University of Idaho a second time before receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism.

Maybe I’m laboring under a misconception, i.e. the Dems are the party of Jefferson, et al. and the GOP was founded in 1854 and included men like Lincoln. If so, the Dems gave us the gerrymander, the Chicago political machine, and the Senate filibuster. The Dems I remember most vividly are Daley, the Kennedys, and my dad. I know that one of those people was a working man. The Dems have been riding on their reputation as the voice of the working class for far too long. They might have been that at one time, but now they are simply a loose conglomeration of special interest groups.

What in the world was McCain thinking?

If you feel that Obama’s success at Harvard makes him elite, then you must be proud that Palin had a mediocre college career. And if you further believe that studying our country’s history is a waste of time (after all, doesn’t a real leader learn how the world works by listening to God and Joe the Plumber?), then Palinbush is your candidate two years from now.

Anyone else notice how the Rightwing Crazies in their futile attempts to sway the rest of us seem to be afflicted with the dreaded Camera-Shy virus? What stuns me is they sctually think Palin’s a fox. Amazing. There isn’t enough soap in the world to make that true.

While reading panel 2, the first person who came to mind was Boopsie herself. I half-expected an “I should know” punchline.

When did he stop being relevant and turn into a bigoted jackass? Just because the media buried the Obama “57 states” video or the “idiot without a teleprompter” clips but loved showing Palin avoiding the newspaper question doesn’t make your nonesense true, TRUE-doh. It just makes it seem nasty.

It’s interesting, Trudeau normally just puts in repeats, but he seems to have segued into these with the “new software for the Palin doll” strip a few days back. The last couple, however, are repeats from the election, you betcha!

Not to mention it was funded simply by her being prettier than others [being a model]. That’s quite “elite.”

Still interesting how the draft dodger [Bush] was able to make the war veteran look unpatriotic, other than Kerry talks with his foot in his mouth all of the time. And what was the other running platform: “if you don’t elect me, they might give those gays rights?”

Still a second class citizen even now. Gotta love it.

While votes are counted in a secret back room by corporate machinery at the county seat, tended by corporate technicians (Trust Us!), elections will be strictly for show.

Once votes are counted in public, by elected or appointed government officials with their opposition counterparts also watching for chicanery, then we may have meaningful elections.

Reagan just read the scripts & “survived” as someone who woke up one morning & realized he couldn’t be an actor anymore so he said, “Today I am a gubernatiorial candidate.” The world bought it, or at leasst the American electorate did.

On the one hand, way to go, Boopsie! Way to be your own woman and think for yourself.

On the other hand, I think it’s deplorable that the S.A.T. is not so much a a gauge of one’s skills developed in preparation for college, but one final, empty, cram session for just one more check box in life…

Hey, going to multiple colleges isn’t a bad thing… I’ve gone to 7 colleges and universities myself… but then I do have four degrees in three different fields to show for it, and none of them is “with a concentration in journalism”.
