Wow, I’d forgotten all about Lyman.

He was the guy with the annoyingly weird upside down mustache…. … back in the days before Jon and Garfield had enormous bug eyes.In fact, back when Garfield still looked like a Kliban cat….and every once in a blue moon said something remotely funny.

    Hmmmm…. Google Google….

    snip to fit….voila:

Don’t worry Chireef….maybe trolls don’t talk to themselves…but talking to yourself doesn’t make YOU a troll…It …um…. just makes you as crazy as the rest of us here…. sorry.

I’m an infrequent poster on this strip, but trolls? What trolls?Thought that problem was under control.Even some people whom Admin considered trolls were redeemed, folks like Number 6 – and was it Dogsniff?

I don’t think Admin ever considered No 6 or Dogsniff trolls, exactly… they were each just wrist-slapped for an incident of “bad behavior”…and were allowed back after many of us complained about their removal and stood up for their stalwart characters.OTOH this site does a MUCH better job of removing and/or confining trolls than the one poor admin at Comics.com could do.There are still people making trollish remarks, but even the posters here are better at not feeding them….I think the kind referred to in this strip are the nit-pickers:“His shirt was green yesterday”and the endless whiners “I don’t like this character…. when are we getting back to that arc about blah blah…”and the perpetually lame who post“This is lame.”

The only trolls I like are the ones beneath the Mackinac Bridge, at least that’s Da Yoopers call us….But they smile when we bring our money above the Bridge….In Michigan, “The Bridge” is only the Mac. Going to the beach, or going to The Lake, really only means going to one of the Great Lakes…sure there are “beaches” on our inland lakes, but we’ve got so many we don’t know what to do with them, so we don’t count them as Beaches…

BTW, I heard that Dogsniff and 6 both got bare bottom spankings….They don’t talk about it much, but at least one of them enjoyed it, I’m told….I’m pretty sure Susan administered the punishment for the staff of Brevity…..

Today’s strip wouldn’t exist without sites like GoComics because formerly readers were merely readers and there only WERE old-school trolls. (I wish GoComics would bring back POGO!)

Godfrey — perhaps you mean today’s forum?Cos many strips exist without online commentary. In fact a few exist ONLY in print… where the only trolls they attract my be those sleeping under bridges, with the newspaper for blankets.GoComics is part of the online presence of Universal Media… The rights to Pogo are controlled by King Features.

I once got reprimanded (but not banned) for supposedly posting an inappropriate link to (shudder) non-family content. As it turned out, I had not posted any links at all for at least a week, and it was all due to a surious complaing by one of the resident trolls whom the powers that be would not identify, but I have my suspicions.

The main value in bringing back Pogo is in teaching cartooning style and 1950s-’60s history. The Kelley family was quite willing to continue the strip, but the papers kept shrinking the size to the point that the gorgeous detail and separate arc along the lower edge got crowded out and it could no longer be the same piece of art.
