Just HOW is being able to stuff a basketball thru a hoop by a gay guy a case for gay rights?

Agreed! And, if you think you haven’t been on a team with a gay, you are sadly mistaken.

BTW: Doesn’t the concept of TEAM mean mutual support? It’s only a distraction if YOU want it to be.

^—This. I’d like to be able to simply say I’m a woman without any trans qualifiers and have people not really give a crap, either.
    -
Until then, I have to be concerned with politicians like Rick Perry who propose legislation that trans people can’t legally get married because our original birth certificates say one sex and we’re socially another, so whether I’m with a man or a woman, it’s “same-sex marriage.” I wonder what he’d think about the situation where I’m currently dating a trans guy (so, girl with guy parts and guy with girl parts).

Only, that’s not what “The media” said, as if the media were one giant being. Already, one commentator from ESPN of all places has condemned Collins for being gay. Your confusion seems to be in thinking that if anyone in the media says something you don’t like, then the whole group has done it. Rush Limbaugh is the media, don’t forget. Personally, I agree with masterskrain that it’ll only be a big deal when it’s not a big deal. And I think society is getting to that point.

Tell me the last time someone was fired from his job because his employer found out he was a Christian. - No one is born a Christian, and gay isn’t a creed or a choice, any more than being straight is. - If being an orthodox Catholic is being like Pope Francis, you’ve got a long way to go. - And as to being a Christian, when was an athlete given any other advice about that than the following?:

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” Matthew 6:5-7.

“To every thing there is a season and time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiates 3:1.

And, as soon as that’s the general attitude, things will be fine.

“it will be a really big deal when it’s no longer a big deal”……yup. There’s a tee shirt in there, somewhere.

Over the next few years a few STARTING players in the major team sports are likely to have come out (and possibly a superstar). That won’t be the end, but it will be the end of the beginning. I was born straight, yet I know I could’ve been born gay. People aren’t responsible for their DNA.

ESPN had a show called Playmakers where a homosexual wide out was outed by his boyfriend during a team practice. The team didn’t take it so well and ended up brusing him during the team practices. The team owners wanted him to go on IR and he said no, but because he bought drugs for a team mate he was forced to go on IR. It was an interesting series until the NFL threatened to sue ESPN and thus they cancelled the show.

olfart said, ^ No. Keep trying. I’m sure you will make a case for naziism

DId you just equate being gay with genocidal fascism? I know you didn’t, I just want to be clear."

it was orthodox catholic that was equating gay with Nazi. Interestingly enough wrt to the Nazi’s gays were right behind jews in the hierarchy for extermination. While jews were forced to identify themselves by wearing yellow stars of david, homosexuals were forced to identify themselves by wearing upsidedown pink triangles. Both were exterminated with support and encouragement from orthodox catholics church.

how orthodox catholic and his holier than me attitude pines for those good old days.

Tim Tebow is a positive role model in a sport where a lot of people perceive a certain amount of avarice, hubris, and greed. Every year there are stories of the “bad behavior” of one football player of another. Tim Tebow, despite the difficulties he’s been having, lets people of faith know they can be part of this world without having to set aside something that is important to them.
I look at this man admitting to being gay as similar in that it is a message to people who are struggling with the desire to be part of a culture that may or may not easily accept them, and may ridicule or abuse them. People need to feel accepted and part of the community and organizations to which they are drawn.
To those who consider homosexuality to be morally deviant and a sin, there is nothing to be said but this, we are admonished by the New Testament to love the sinner even if we hate the sin. To judge not. Those who are angry about this ‘additional sign of the fall of man’ don’t have to like it, they simply have to accept it and “love their brother as they love themselves.”
If you believe in God, you have to believe He’s got it all under control and will make the final decisions on the matter once we get to the other side.
    Be at peace, neighbors.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Funny. Tebow “Tebowing” and practicing his Christianity openly was hot news for months, and he is pretending that it was ignored by the media? I love how alternate realities are created.
