Just HOW is being able to stuff a basketball thru a hoop by a gay guy a case for gay rights?

Agreed! And, if you think you haven’t been on a team with a gay, you are sadly mistaken.

^—This. I’d like to be able to simply say I’m a woman without any trans qualifiers and have people not really give a crap, either.-Until then, I have to be concerned with politicians like Rick Perry who propose legislation that trans people can’t legally get married because our original birth certificates say one sex and we’re socially another, so whether I’m with a man or a woman, it’s “same-sex marriage.” I wonder what he’d think about the situation where I’m currently dating a trans guy (so, girl with guy parts and guy with girl parts).

Only, that’s not what “The media” said, as if the media were one giant being. Already, one commentator from ESPN of all places has condemned Collins for being gay. Your confusion seems to be in thinking that if anyone in the media says something you don’t like, then the whole group has done it. Rush Limbaugh is the media, don’t forget. Personally, I agree with masterskrain that it’ll only be a big deal when it’s not a big deal. And I think society is getting to that point.

Tell me the last time someone was fired from his job because his employer found out he was a Christian. - No one is born a Christian, and gay isn’t a creed or a choice, any more than being straight is. - If being an orthodox Catholic is being like Pope Francis, you’ve got a long way to go. - And as to being a Christian, when was an athlete given any other advice about that than the following?: “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” Matthew 6:5-7. “To every thing there is a season and time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiates 3:1.

Over the next few years a few STARTING players in the major team sports are likely to have come out (and possibly a superstar). That won’t be the end, but it will be the end of the beginning. I was born straight, yet I know I could’ve been born gay. People aren’t responsible for their DNA.

ESPN had a show called Playmakers where a homosexual wide out was outed by his boyfriend during a team practice. The team didn’t take it so well and ended up brusing him during the team practices. The team owners wanted him to go on IR and he said no, but because he bought drugs for a team mate he was forced to go on IR. It was an interesting series until the NFL threatened to sue ESPN and thus they cancelled the show.

DId you just equate being gay with genocidal fascism? I know you didn’t, I just want to be clear."it was orthodox catholic that was equating gay with Nazi. Interestingly enough wrt to the Nazi’s gays were right behind jews in the hierarchy for extermination. While jews were forced to identify themselves by wearing yellow stars of david, homosexuals were forced to identify themselves by wearing upsidedown pink triangles. Both were exterminated with support and encouragement from orthodox catholics church.how orthodox catholic and his holier than me attitude pines for those good old days.

Tim Tebow is a positive role model in a sport where a lot of people perceive a certain amount of avarice, hubris, and greed. Every year there are stories of the “bad behavior” of one football player of another. Tim Tebow, despite the difficulties he’s been having, lets people of faith know they can be part of this world without having to set aside something that is important to them.I look at this man admitting to being gay as similar in that it is a message to people who are struggling with the desire to be part of a culture that may or may not easily accept them, and may ridicule or abuse them. People need to feel accepted and part of the community and organizations to which they are drawn. To those who consider homosexuality to be morally deviant and a sin, there is nothing to be said but this, we are admonished by the New Testament to love the sinner even if we hate the sin. To judge not. Those who are angry about this ‘additional sign of the fall of man’ don’t have to like it, they simply have to accept it and “love their brother as they love themselves.” If you believe in God, you have to believe He’s got it all under control and will make the final decisions on the matter once we get to the other side.Be at peace, neighbors.Respectfully,C.

Funny. Tebow “Tebowing” and practicing his Christianity openly was hot news for months, and he is pretending that it was ignored by the media? I love how alternate realities are created.

Bottom line: we’ve come a long way. I graduated high school in 1966. In those days, no one at all was out or you could literally get sent to prison for it, even in liberal Massachusetts. Kudos to Jason. He will be cited as a milestone in ten years, when openly-gay sports stars are as common as openly-gay pop stars are today.

Oh, and you haters? You’re losing, aren’t you?

^ you do not remember your history accurately. and i’m sure you can find reasons to dismiss every link as they are written by people who can write. of course that has no bearing on the original source being a pope. what you might be remembering is the church provided falsified passports to thousands of criminal fascists after ww2 to enable them to escape prosecution by illegally facilitating their emigration to south America. <—that sounds more like the church I know. you can google ‘ratlines’ to find out how they helped the fascist murderers escape. Kinda like the church helps aids victims, but vociferously opposes sex education and condoms. they USE the victims in a very limited number to forward their own agenda.

^^and just to put things into perspective

Chiune Sugihara saved 10,000 times the jews the vatican claimed to helped, at the cost of his career and livelihood for the rest of his life, as well as putting his own family at great risk while doing so. Any human being would find the story incredible. Oscar schindler – a private german businessman saved more jews that your Vatican, at great personal risk and cost.Countless individual CHRISTIANS stood with their jewish friends and were marched in the gas chambers alongside them for speaking out. This is true courage and what the organized Christian church could not even imagine doing.my nanny, while I was growing up had a number tattooed on her arm. She was one of those TRUE Christians, who stood up and spoke out when the Nazis gathered up the undesirables in Poland. A near miracle she survived.there are many great people, some Christian, but none thump bibles or stand behind the politics of the Vatican. The stand behind real victims and actually walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

A MAJOR step forward in America. This makes it easier for the next guy not to have to live a lie. I know that many don’t see this as an important, or even news worthy event, but when fewer people feel the necessity to hide what they are, that is a very important day for the country.

“Let’s see…this homosexual spent 8 years lying to a woman, leading her on, pretending he loved her and wanted to marry her. And now we’re supposed to believe he’s some sort of positive role model?”

Let’s see, part of society says the only way to consider a person as human is if they are heterosexual. Pretending to be heterosexual has been expected by society for many years and decades. What exactly do you think the pursuit of equal rights is all about?

Sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Hair color is not a choice, but it too can be covered up with fakeness.

Gays, lesbians and transgender people want to live their lives with same respect and rights as the openly heterosexual population.

Organized bigotry: KKK. Bigotry, like sexual identity, knows no politics. However, you CAN learn, and change bigoted feelings. You CANNOT change your DNA.

It’s called organized bigotry. Something the right can’t do without. First it was blacks as slaves, then blacks are lynching victims. Make sure to ALWAYS blame the victims. Either way how far ahead have they gotten since the 70’s. If you don’t espouse conservative christian views, now the bigotry is called ‘anti-Christian’".took the liberty to correct your post.

If you haven’t read the story, go read it. If you don’t think it’s a major uphill battle for gay kids just to acknowledge to themselves they are gay, let alone tell the world, you are clueless. Collins lost a lot more than 8 years trying to be what he thought he had to be.“When I was younger I dated women. I even got engaged. I thought I had to live a certain way. I thought I needed to marry a woman and raise kids with her. I kept telling myself the sky was red, but I always knew it was blue.” – From Collins’ SI interview

The distinction is undoubtedly made because christians are the ones trying to deprive others of their rights. Gays aren’t.

Gay people have been persecuted by religious types for generations, and Collins shows courage by standing up to prejudice. Fundamentalist Evangelicals are persecuted by no one, but heap much abuse on gays even as they play the victim themselves.

Those same knives and gun wielded by angry, unthinking conservatives, frustrated by their inability to foster a solid argument and driven to violence by their frustration?Liberals are open to the truth; it’s the most important part of being a Liberal, keeping an open mind and adjusting your thinking when new and improved information is presented.Conservatives are about closed minds, so very little truth ever gets in.
