Now District of Columbia is a nightmare because it is a Federal district and Congress has its bars in it making it a terrible place for some especially if you are poor and black. Local govt can’t operate well with the Feds in the way.

The Feds have little to do with the scandals. They are the result of the blatant corruption and racism of the local politicians.

Vincent Gray’s campaign message was essentially that he would return the District to the corruptions of the past. This message was only thinly vieled, so it was dismaying to see him actually beat Fenty. Well, DC, you wanted corrupt, you got corrupt.

Not everyone in the country lives in D.C.
Apparently, that fact is news to Toles.

As has been mentioned before, Toles draws for THE WASHINGTON POST, which is a local paper first. So sometimes his cartoons will be about something in Washington. The only truly “national” paper in the US is USA Today (if you can call it a “newspaper”).
Deal with it. If you can’t handle the fact that an editorial cartoonist who draws for a paper that serves Washington D.C. sometimes draws comics that of interest only to people WHO LIVE IN THE AREA THE PAPER IS TARGETED TO, then stop reading his cartoons. He won’t mind. Really.

GoComics is national (international, actually). If Toles wants to draw local cartoons, fine, but logic says he should show either explain them for the 99.99% of the people who don’t subscribe to the Washington Post, or quit posting local cartoons in a national forum.

You undercut your argument when you note that GoComics is international. Undoubtedly many foreign viewers don’t “get” U.S. themed cartoons, but the Comments often clarify them. When they don’t, there’s nothing wrong with posting “Huh?” or “Was ist das?” Americans would be happy to supply background material, and no one’s little ego is bruised.
