    He goes to the same barber as Oliver Hardy.

    Ollie’s barber was Italian and used to call him ‘Babe’. It stuck and became an affectionate nickname.

    Self-made man still wears the pageboy he grew up with. He claims it’s his roots among the “little people.” Everyone else knows he’s just too old-fashioned to change.

    In those days women were never mayors or chancellors (note the chain of office). It’s a man.

    Click-to-enlarge image can be found here. Smaller enlargement can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.

    Portrait of John the Warlike, first Duke of Cleves (1419-1481) (link shows his Wikipedia page) is shown, with a different coloration image, and described, by its current-location page (Google translated body).

    The Joconde database (maintained by the French Ministry of Culture) attributes (Google translated) the painting to an anonymous student of the artist, not the artist (start of 15 pages of his paintings) himself. His Catholic Encyclopedia entry, Wikipedia page and collection (many more under Subcategories at each level).

    Third, of the 3 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

    @Number Six

    More trivia: Babe Hardy was also his first screen name. According to this, a numerologist (Wikipedia page) convinced him to use Oliver instead.

    To heck with the ‘chain of office’. Like I’m asking @Dogsniff, “Did you not notice the ’Adam’s Apple’?”
