You must have had strokes during St. Ronnie’s and George W’s administrations with the way they spent.

When Mr. Obama became president in January 2009, the total federal debt stood at $10.6 trillion. This week, it hit $16.7 trillion — an increase of 57 percent. In the same time frame under President George W. Bush, total federal debt rose 38 percent. Under President Clinton, it rose 32 percent.

No, it was okay then, because that was money well-spent on killing the people MStevenson hates.

Let’s ask the Congressional Budget Office, shall we?
“The federal government ran a budget deficit of $489 billion in the first seven months of fiscal year 2013 (that is, from October 2012 through April 2013), according to CBO’s estimates. That amount is $231 billion less than the shortfall recorded during the same period last year , primarily because revenue collections have been much greater than they were at this point in 2012. In contrast, federal spending so far this year has been slightly lower than what it was last year at this time.” In other words, Obama was right, and the GOP tax cuts were wrong.

I’m afraid you are not taking everything into account. Part of the debt (some six-plus trillion dollars’ worth) was provided by the Fed, not by the president, as part of the “too-big-to-fail” bailout. Congress did not approve that either. Put the blame where it belongs: on Mr. Greenspan and Mr. Bernanke.

The Federal Government is going deeper and deeper in debt because it’s spending even larger quantities of money it doesn’t have. I wouldn’t call the slightly lower deficit this year a great success and it’s not due to anything Obama has done. Most of it was caused by the sequester.
